Pushkin Museum on Kropotkin: address, director, exhibitions

In the capital, there are many attractions that deserve attention. These include the State Museum of Alexander Pushkin. For art lovers, visiting this place will be extremely informative and interesting.

History of creation

Most recently, in 2012, the Pushkin Museum celebrated its anniversary - the 55th anniversary, because the government decree on the construction of the state museum was signed on October 5, 1957. In just three years, the first exhibition was prepared, and the cultural institution met its first visitors.

Pushkin's collection was placed in remarkable halls full of comfort. Here everyone could get acquainted with the life and work of the great poet, as well as see many cultural figures of that time.

From the very first days of the museum, in which there was originally no one exhibit, began to receive gifts from patrons of things that in one way or another were associated with the name of Pushkin. These were works of art, furniture, household items and so on.

Architectural project

The museum was especially prepared for the celebration of the writer's two hundredth anniversary: the building was to be reconstructed to a modern style, while making it so that it did not lose its uniqueness. The reconstruction project was developed in advance, back in 1996, with the support of the government of Moscow. As a result, the future Pushkin Museum on Kropotkinskaya turned out to be in the classic simple style: a clear symmetry of the main facade, slender columns, a pediment, a portico, an elegant frieze ... All this was extremely reminiscent of an ancient temple.

And now, in the winter of 1997, the day of the grand opening was appointed. This event can be considered the second birth of the Pushkin Museum. After all, as a result, the museum, which was an old nobleman's estate of the Khrushchev-Seleznevs, became a multi-functional building with all the amenities for visitors. Now it is possible to carry out scientific, exposition-exhibition, concert and pedagogical activities. What is very pleasing, at the museum is a library with a reading room and a playroom for children. The restaurant is almost adjoined to the restaurant with a gourmet kitchen called "Onegin", where a certain style is also observed, reminiscent of the life of the times of Alexander Pushkin.

The first exposition

In the new building of the Pushkin Museum you can see a permanent exposition, which has been unchanged since the beginning of the institution's work, only replenished with new interesting exhibits. It is called "Pushkin and his era." It contains detailed and clear information about the biography and creative path of the great Russian writer.

And another exhibition, which operates in the museum constantly, will please young fans of Pushkin's work. These are real games rooms called "Pushkin's Fairy Tales". Here, the children not only can read beautiful fairy tales, but also immerse themselves in the world of magic and adventure with the help of thematic games.

The first director of the museum

It was not easy to create a museum, a great number of true connoisseurs and admirers of the genius poet's creativity put their hand to this. But the main initiator of the creation was the future director of the Pushkin Museum in Moscow - Alexander Zinovyevich Kerin, who dedicated this institution all his life. This is truly a man of legend, since no one, perhaps, could have given himself up to this business as he does. Alexander Zinovievich remarkably performed his functions.

Today the museum is run by Evgeny Bogatyrev, who is one of the best art historians in Russia. He is a full member of the International Academy of Sciences. The merits of Yevgeny Anatolyevich can be listed for a very long time, but the main thing, according to many, is that the Pushkin Museum not only preserved its former greatness, but also constantly expands the collection, develops and becomes only more beautiful.
