The People's Initiative "Immortal Regiment - Moscow" as a reflection of the greatness of Russia

May 9, 2015 in the Russian capital was organized an unprecedented procession - millions of people marched along Red Square and the central streets of the city, carrying in their hands portraits of their fathers, grandfathers, grandparents and even great-great-grandparents who participated in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. This event was planned and brilliantly held by a regional patriotic public organization, called "Immortal Regiment - Moscow".

History of the movement

The idea of such a parade was born in Tyumen. Its author - the son of war veteran Gennady Ivanov - organized a similar procession through the streets of his city on May 9, 2007. Gennady admitted that a few months before that he had a dream: he literally saw a procession of people with portraits of their ancestral warriors in their hands. Gennady Ivanov embodied what he saw. The idea was supported by other regions of Russia.

In 2012, when similar actions were held annually in more than 20 subjects of our country, in Tomsk such a march was called an "immortal regiment". So the name of this phenomenon was born. As early as next year, 120 cities of Russia came to the action of such a regiment, a year later the people's initiative covered already 400 settlements, up to a million people took part in it.

Finally, in the anniversary of 2015, 12 million people came to the streets of our country on May 9, and in the capital this figure was half a million citizens.

This miracle happened because the memory of our heroic ancestors lives in the hearts of our citizens, and also thanks to the activities of the Unlimited Regiment-Moscow RPO, headed by Nikolai Zemtsov.

Movement today

Today this organization has not only an integral structure, which includes leadership, partners, the headquarters of volunteers, the concert activity department, but also strives to conduct a large-scale educational work among the students of Moscow and all of Russia (organizing contests, conducting lectures and conversations with schoolchildren, Etc.). "Immortal Regiment - Moscow" struck the whole world on May 9, 2015, not only by the number of people who came to this holiday, but also by the fact that the president of our country, generally avoiding noisy public events, walked at the beginning of this regiment, modestly carrying in his hands Portrait of the father - participant in the war.

The Western press differently perceived the emergence of Putin among the common people in such a modest role, but ordinary citizens of our country welcomed this decision of Vladimir Vladimirovich. Putin, as it were, stressed that he, like many citizens of our country, can be proud of his parents who, in response to Hitler's aggression, found the courage to survive the terrible blockade of Leningrad, to bear the death of their children, to win back their land and even find strength On the birth of the last late child, which became our president.

Symbolic meaning of movement

The patriotic movement of such a plan is very much in demand today in Russia. Our country once again in its history faced with the rejection of its inherent values by some Western countries. In response to these threats, the country should not only unite, but also show its strength and grandeur, which is the people's memory.

The immortal regiment is the immortal values of our country, consisting in love of the Motherland and loyalty to it. Bringing pictures of our relatives who fought for their country during the years of Hitler's aggression, we are as if telling the whole world that we - the descendants of those soldiers - are also ready to sacrifice their lives for the ideals for which our ancestors fought. We are one, therefore we are invincible.
