Rotting of fins: treatment in a common aquarium with peroxide

Sometimes the aquarist notices that yesterday there are still healthy fish on the edges of the tail or fins a white rim appears. With its growth, the tissues exfoliate from the appendages and die off. Thus manifests itself as one of the most common diseases of aquarium fish - fin rot. You can fight this scourge in many ways. Very often for this purpose, for example, hydrogen peroxide is used.

What fish can fall ill

Most of the fin rot develops in barbs, blue neon, goldfish, labyrinthine and viviparous. In particular, this disease is dangerous for young animals. The fin and tail tissues of such fish are still very tender and "dissolve" due to rot almost instantly. Adult individuals pick up rot more rarely, and the disease itself is easier for them.

But, of course, the greatest danger is rot for the fish with luxurious tails and fins. Mostly it concerns such handsome men as vealehvosts. The beginning of the disease can completely reduce the decorative qualities of these aquarium inhabitants to no. Therefore, it will be most useful for the owners of this popular variety of gold fish to know the methods of its treatment and prevention.

Main causes of development

Causes fin feces a special kind of bacteria - Pseudomonas fluorescens. The main causes of infection are:

  • Poor quality water;
  • Improper feeding;
  • Aggression of other fish;
  • Stress and infection (bacterial).

What drugs can be used

If there is a disease such as fin rot, in goldfish, treatment can be carried out both by means of purchase, and by the usual domestic ones, which are always available at hand. The same applies to other species of aquarium inhabitants. Most often this disease is used:

  • salt;
  • hydrogen peroxide;
  • Streptocide;
  • Levomycetin.

Sometimes owners of aquariums use other drugs in detecting such a disease, as fin rot, in goldfish. Treatment with methylene blue, for example, can give a definite result. However, the remedy is not too strong and it does not always help. Of the purchased special preparations usually use TetraMedica General Tonic and SeraBaktopur. These are very effective tools. You can also try to heal the rot with bicillin-5 or malachite green (not to be confused with the diamond).

How to treat properly

Treatment for fin rot is best done in a common aquarium. This can prevent the re-development of the disease or the infection of other fish. The fact is that rotten bacteria enter the aquarium usually with river ground, food or taken from open reservoirs by plants. Thus, disinfection, carried out directly on the site, will get rid of including the very cause of the disease.

In a separate vessel, fin rot is treated only if there are any healthy fish in the aquarium that do not tolerate the drug chosen for this purpose. Before the beginning of the procedure, water is substituted for 30-50% in the aquarium without fail. It will also be necessary to raise the temperature to the maximum allowable for this particular variety of fish. If there are healthy representatives of the fauna in the aquarium that do not tolerate warm water, which is sick with the rot of the "patient", it is still necessary to treat it in a separate vessel. In this case, the aquarium itself in the future will need to be disinfected separately. To do this, all fish and snails are removed from it, and then they remove and thoroughly wash the soil and plants in a solution of bicillin-5. Plastic and ceramic decorations for disinfection can be simply boiled.

The use and principle of the action of peroxide

Fin fin rot in goldfish, labyrinthine, viviparous, etc. with the help of this remedy can be cured quite quickly. The principle of peroxide is simple. First, it saturates the water with oxygen (which is useful for fish in any case), and secondly, it oxidizes the organics well, from which the components of the cells of the disease causing bacteria are composed.

Fin fin rot: treatment in a common aquarium with hydrogen peroxide

Apply H 2 O 2 , of course, should be correct. To treat fish from fin rot, a 3% solution of this substance is used. This kind of peroxide is sold in pharmacies in liquid form. If necessary, you can make a 3% solution and from the tablets. A glass of water will need 6 of them. For the treatment of fin rot, you need 2-2.5 ml of a drug per 10 liters of water.

Of course, it is impossible to pour a pharmacy or a solution prepared from tablets directly from a glass or a bottle into an aquarium. After all, you can accidentally get a stream on some fish and burn it. The same applies to plants. It is better to dilute the necessary amount of peroxide with water in a half liter jar and gently pour everything into the filter jet. Add H 2 O 2 in the treatment of a disease such as fin rot, in the aquarium should be 1-2 times a day until the fish recover (7-14 days).

Since after using this tool in the aquarium there are many dead organics, during the treatment should be replaced every day at least 30% of the water. Otherwise, rotting residues can cause poisoning in fish.

Tip

Peroxide is cheap and effective enough. If it gets into the aquarium, an active reaction begins. In this case, the substance decomposes into two harmless components - oxygen and water. But in spite of this, the use of peroxide is only necessary if it is found that the rot of the fins of valehvostov, barbs, viviparous, etc., is in severe form. At the initial stage of fish it is better to heal with some more sparing means of purchase. In any case, add peroxide to the aquarium in quantities of no more than 2.5 ml per 10 liters of water. Otherwise, water plants will be damaged. In particular, they do not like vallisneria peroxide, mosses of all kinds, cambodia and hornwort. Adding the same 4 ml of this substance to the aquarium in 10 liters will be dangerous for the fish themselves. Peroxide does not have any particular effect on the biofilter bacteria, fortunately, it does not.

How to treat rot with salt

This is another cheap and quite effective tool. A very good solution may be its use in detecting such a disease as fin rot, in goldfish. Salt treatment for some other types of fish, unfortunately, is contraindicated. Do not tolerate its presence in the water, for example, barbs and all labyrinth. The animals, on the other hand, love her very much. Therefore, salt can be treated with fin rot not only in vealechvosts and common goldfish, but also in guppies, sword-bearers and molly. The correct dosage in this case will be 1 st.l -1.

Treatment with streptocid and levomycetin

Both of these funds can be purchased at the pharmacy without a prescription and at a low cost. Levomycetin can have a negative effect on the microflora of biofilters. Therefore, for treatment in a general aquarium, it should be used as carefully as possible. The required dose of levomycetin is 500 mg per 10 liters. Its beneficial effect on the fins of fish is this remedy for 48 hours. Then it will be necessary to replace as much water as possible. Then again add 500 mg of the agent to the aquarium (and so on up to four times).

Antibiotics are generally a very good remedy for such a disease as fin rot, in goldfish. Treatment with a streptocid, for example, can also be carried out in a separate tank or a common aquarium. Of course, this drug can be a good solution for any other species of fish. The required dose of streptocid in the detection of rot is 10-20 g per 10 liters. This amount of the drug should be added to the aquarium every 8 days for a month. And of course, in this case it is also worthwhile to do a substitution of water in the aquarium.

How to prevent the disease

Infected fin rot usually only fish with weakened immunity. Therefore, the prevention of infection with Pseudomonas fluorescens is primarily a good care for aquarium inhabitants. To prevent infection, it is also necessary to disinfect the new soil before laying it. It is not necessary to plant in the aquarium and no plants taken from ponds, lakes or rivers. To provoke the development of fin rot in fish, among other things, the water temperature may be too low. Therefore, it is necessary to monitor the correct operation of the thermostat.
