Important cities in Croatia: brief description, photo

Surely everyone has heard of such a beautiful country as Croatia. It is located in the south of Central Europe. The total population is just over 4 million people. Here are the famous resort towns of Croatia, which annually attracts a lot of tourists. This country is distinguished by picturesque places and equally beautiful cities with a rich culture. It is she who helps to see all the charm of this territory. Of course, the presence of the sea coast plays a significant role in the development of the country.

In this article, an excursion will take place on some famous settlements, that is, the important cities of Croatia are described. This is Zagreb, Split, Rijeka, Dubrovnik, Pula and Makarska. Many of them are large economic and industrial areas.

Zagreb

The capital of Croatia is Zagreb. It is a city with a rich history and culture. It accumulated more than 900 years. The city of Zagreb itself originated in 1094. And in this period there was the very first mention of this settlement. Then the King of Hungary established his authority on the hill Kaptol. Here there were two settlements called Kaptol and Hradec. Now they are part of Zagreb.

The climate of the city, as a rule, is continental. The average temperature in summer does not exceed 23 ° C, and in winter does not fall below the mark of 0 ° C. Nevertheless, the hottest month is May. Autumn, like in all countries with a continental climate, is rainy. Snow is characteristic of winter.

In Zagreb there are many amazing attractions: the Tower of Lotrshchak, the Square of Ban Josip Jelacic and King Tomislav. The latter is the largest area of Zagreb. An interesting scientific monument dedicated to the solar system will also be interesting. The attraction is located more than 7 km. And these are just some places that really deserve attention.

Split

Next in line is Split. The city is located on the Adriatic coast. If Zagreb is the largest in Croatia, then the described settlement in this plan takes an honorable second place. Split is a resort. It is located between such cities as Dubrovnik and Zadar. In its history there was an interesting moment: once Split was the capital of one of the colonies of the Roman province - the Salon.

The city center is of historical value. This area became the property of UNESCO. The main attraction of Split is Diocletian's palace. This structure dates back to 305 BC. E. The area of this building occupies about 3 hectares. Split - the city in which the shooting of the popular series "The Game of Thrones" was conducted.

Rijeka

Two cities have already been considered, the third is on the waiting list. It's about Rijeka. It is a port in Croatia. Occupies the third place in the country by area. Rijeka is one of the few major cities in the country where most of the Croats live. It is located in the Rijec Bay, where the river of the same name flows. The latter, in turn, is part of the Kvarner bay of the Adriatic Sea. Therefore, the name of the city is literally translated as "river".

People in this area have lived for a long time, since the settlements found here relate to the Neolithic (New Stone Age). Interesting architecture of the city of Rijeka is abundant, however, the settlement itself is considered a landmark. You can highlight such monuments as the Croatian National Theater named after Ivan Zayts and the palace "Modelo".

Dubrovnik

Everyone has heard of such a magnificent resort as Dubrovnik. He is the dream of any tourist. A city with a small population (just over 42 thousand people), but with a huge influx of tourists every day. Dubrovnik is surrounded by a fortress and stands on the edge of the cliff, it is also a UNESCO heritage. Its appearance was fixed in the VII century. A distinctive feature of this city of Croatia is the Old Town. Houses with red tiles are also a symbol of Dubrovnik. The old city is a mock-up of the Middle Ages and life in this period. Dubrovnik is just full of attractions. These include Stradun, the Princely Palace, the Pila Gate, the Square of the Lodge, the City Harbor - the creation of human hands, intertwined with nature, and much more.

Pula

The next city with an interesting name is Pula. It is located on the peninsula of Istria, which is located in the Adriatic Sea. Unlike Rijeka, the inhabitants of Pula are multinational. Historically, this settlement had a very important strategic importance, its founders were the Greeks. Various sights testify to the majesty of this city. The most famous architectural monument of Pula is the ancient Roman amphitheater. And this is not surprising, since the heyday of the city fell precisely during the reign of the Roman Empire. At the moment this building is used for various concerts and exhibitions. The second attraction of Pula by popularity is the fortress Kashtel, which is located on the top of the hill.

Makarska

Describing the cities of Croatia, it is worth mentioning about the village of Makarska. It is also quite a popular resort. Located Makarska in the central part of the Adriatic coast between the cities of Dubrovnik and Split. Judging from the history, this settlement differs from other cities in Croatia, as it was inhabited by Slavs - non -retans. They are named after the river that is in this city - Neretva. As in Dubrovnik, there is an old part of the city with its sights. This Franciscan monastery and the church of St. Petra.
