Rotavirus infection: symptoms and treatment
Rotavirus infection is becoming one of the most common types of influenza now. It can affect both adults and children, but the features of treatment are the same.
The causative agent of "intestinal" influenza is a virus that spreads in all cells of the mucosa of the gastrointestinal system, comes out with the help of feces and saliva, and is transmitted by the food method. As a result, a large number of contacting people develop rotavirus infection. Symptoms at the onset of the disease are the following: rapid temperature increase, abdominal pain, disturbances in the process of digestion of food, the appearance of diarrhea of yellow color and vomiting. This condition leads to the fact that very quickly the dehydration of the body occurs. Therefore, rotavirus in children is especially dangerous.
An incubation process is a period of one to five days, and then a rotavirus infection begins to develop very quickly. Symptoms are similar to food poisoning, salmonella and cholera, so you need to be attentive to your condition. In order not to be mistaken with a diagnosis, a doctor should pay careful attention to the patient. With "intestinal" flu, there are, in addition to the indicated signs, also a red throat, inflammation of the pharynx and mucous eyes.
It is recommended to begin treatment of the disease as early as possible. Only in this case one can be sure that there will be no complications, and the symptoms of rotavirus infection will not be repeated again and will not intensify. The body develops a strong immunity against "gastric" flu , and therefore a secondary disease is almost impossible.
Very acute infection occurs in children, especially small children. If the treatment is wrong, dehydration quickly comes, and then an immediate hospitalization is necessary.
Adults, however, may not suspect for a long time that rotavirus infection has "settled" in the body. Symptoms are usually very worn out. This is a rare diarrhea, low level of appetite. The temperature can rise sharply, but quickly disappear. As a rule, a person does not know that he is the carrier of "intestinal" flu and is very contagious to others.
Therefore, in the presence of the above symptoms, a child or an adult should immediately begin to treat the disease. There is no specific strategy, there is a symptomatic one. Typically, this is a drop in temperature, stopping diarrhea and vomiting, cleansing of toxic substances.
First you need to change the power mode. Meat, fish, fatty and sweet must be excluded. Preference is given to drying, potatoes and porridges on the water. Drink better unsweetened compote of dried fruits to enrich the body with minerals, or kissel. Food should be divided, but often and in small portions. Obligatory is the use of a solution of the rehydron, enterosgel (smekty) and enterofuril.
But you need to keep in mind that rotavirus infection is treated for a long time. Symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea may occur within a week. This is normal for this disease. In the same case, if more than 7 days have passed, and high fever, severe vomiting and diarrhea do not go away, it is recommended to consult a doctor again. Since, probably, the reception of antibiotics is already necessary, since the "intestinal" flu has passed to a more severe stage, with complications.
The best remedy is the prevention of rotavirus. To do this, it is recommended to follow the rules of personal hygiene. If the family is sick, it must be isolated for the duration of the illness and not eat food and drinks from the same dish. The main way to transmit infection is dirty hands.
The main law for adults and children: on returning home after a street and visiting public places, be sure to wash your hands with soap.
