Geographical location and features

Revda, or Revda (Sverdlovsk region) - a small town in the area, located next to the confluence of the river Revda in Chusovaya. It is the center of the city district of the same name. The historians can not explain the origin of the name of the settlement, but they connect it with the Finno-Ugric "reovdyar", which means "pit".

The town is located forty kilometers to the west of Yekaterinburg. There is a railway station on the line linking the former Sverdlovsk to Kazan.

Revda has one interesting geographical feature: right across the territory of the district is the border between Europe and Asia. In fact, it can be considered the most eastern city in Europe.

City `s history

The starting point in the history of the city can be considered 1734, when the breeder Demidov built a small iron foundry on the banks of the river Revda. It was here that a large deposit of magnetic iron ore was found. The production of pig iron in Revda grew every year, which stimulated the growth of the village. However, working conditions at the plant were terrible. Therefore, the unrest of the workers here happened very often (the most significant occurred in the spring of 1841).

By the end of the XIX century in the town already lived about 8 thousand people. Revdintsi mastered various trades and crafts. In particular, the city throughout Siberia was famous for its handicraft masters, who made excellent forged nails. A new impetus to the development of the city was obtained after the construction in 1906 of the railway line "Yekaterinburg - Perm".

Revda (Sverdlovsk region): modern industry and economy

To date, the city has four large enterprises, on which most of its population works. It:

  • Sredneuralsky copper smelting plant.
  • Nizhneserginsky Metallurgical Plant.
  • Revdinsky brick factory.
  • Factory for processing non-ferrous metals.

Annually Revdinsky produce products for 20-25 million rubles. Despite such a saturation with industrial enterprises, the city has a favorable ecological situation. Revda is surrounded on all sides by forests, and the local wind rose is such that smog and dust here never stagnate in the air.

Sights of the town

In the city of interesting sights are few. One can single out the Palace of Culture of the SUMZ, the Literary Square, a pond with a dam, and the Archangel Michael temple . The central square is decorated with a rather beautiful and dynamic monument to Vladimir Lenin, executed on an individual project, which increases its historical value.

More interesting sights are in the vicinity of the city, however, it is not so easy to get to them. At 15 kilometers south there is the source of St. Platonides. The water in it is curative and unique in its chemical composition. But in 20 kilometers to the west of the city there was an interesting architectural monument - the abandoned Didinsky tunnel. Its total length is 1124 meters. There is a legend that somewhere in the tunnel are hidden the untold wealth of Admiral Kolchak.

An amazing natural site is located just a few kilometers from Revda. It is the Old Stone Rock, whose geological age is about 600 million years. If you look at the rock from a certain angle, you can clearly see the profile of an elderly man.

Conclusion

Revda (Sverdlovsk region) is a small town near Yekaterinburg, where about 60 thousand people live. Here there are several large enterprises, on which the bulk of the population works. In the city of interesting sights a little, however in its vicinities there are places and objects worthy of attention. This is primarily rock Old Man Stone, the source of St. Platonids and the Didinsky Tunnel.
