Pulsation in the head: causes, symptoms, treatment

One of the most frequent complaints, addressed to doctors by patients of any age, is a pulsation in the head. Such noise and sensation of a current of blood, a knock, a synchronous pulse, arise for different reasons. Pulsation can occasionally appear after stress, hypothermia, or increased physical exertion. And it can often occur and be a symptom of serious disorders in the work of vessels and other organs. It's just an unpleasant sensation or throbbing pain. But in any case it is advisable to consult a doctor if this happens often.

What is the ripple in the head?

This symptom can appear in absolutely healthy young people. The sensation of blood flow through the vessels arises from mental overstrain, accumulated fatigue or stress. Pulsation may be weak or severe, accompanied by pain or noise in the ears. Often localized pulsation in the occipital part of the head. In this case, it is associated with a vascular disruption. There may also be a pulse in the frontal, temporal or parietal region.

Why does such a feeling arise?

In a healthy person, exposure to certain factors can suddenly cause noise in the ears, pulsation. The head can be easy at the same time, or, conversely, an unusual weight will be felt. This happens most often with sudden fright, stress or strong physical strain. This condition causes a quickening of the pulse and a simultaneous narrowing of the arteries. Therefore, blood, pushing through pressure through the vessels, causes them to pulsate.

Such headaches can occur as a reaction to changes in weather conditions, fluctuations in the hormonal background in women, due to sedentary lifestyle or due to weakened immunity after serious diseases. Overcooling the body or even excessive consumption of cold foods can also cause a ripple in the head. Often such a feeling arises as a result of severe overwork, accumulated fatigue or emotional overstrain.

What diseases cause throbbing pain?

In many cases, the frequent occurrence of such a feeling indicates the development of serious health disorders. Very often, various vascular diseases do not show any more signs, except that the patient pulses in the head. Other diseases can be accompanied by different symptoms, one of which will be pulsation. To be surveyed at the doctor at occurrence of such sensation it is necessary to diagnose serious illnesses in time. What diseases cause pulsation and pain:

  • aneurysm;
  • atherosclerosis;
  • hypertension;
  • Kidney disease;
  • Osteochondrosis of cervical department;
  • glaucoma;
  • Brain tumors;
  • Vegetative-vascular dystonia;
  • migraine;
  • Sinusitis;
  • pulpitis;
  • Trigeminal neuralgia.

Vascular aneurysm is the most common cause of pulsation

Very often, the cause of a sudden death of a person is precisely this disease. Aneurysm is the thinning of the wall of the cerebral artery and the formation of protrusion, which disrupts the normal flow of blood. Such a condition can continue to be asymptomatic for many years. Occasionally, headaches occur, and in half the cases - pulsation in the head. Suddenly an aneurysm can burst, and such a hemorrhage to the brain always leads to death.

Vegeto-vascular dystonia: symptoms in adults

Treatment of this disease consists only in the removal of discomfort, since in many countries it is not even considered a disease, referring to the manifestation of other pathologies. This condition is also called neurocirculatory dysfunction. Quite often, when complaints of teenage girls on shortness of breath, weakness, dizziness, decreased performance and throbbing pain, doctors diagnose "vegetative-vascular dystonia." Symptoms in adults, treatment and prevention of attacks of this disease usually do not change with age. But the disease occurs mainly in women under 30 years. The problems arising in this case are associated with a violation of the vascular tone. This is what causes a sensation of pulsation in the back of the head or temples.

Vascular disturbances that cause pulsation

The sensation of a pulse in the head often arises, if something prevents the normal passage of blood through the vessels. At the initial stage, this condition may not be accompanied by pain. Some patients turn to the doctor with complaints that they are throbbing in the head. After the examination, one of the diseases that cause such a sensation is found.

  • Atherosclerosis of vessels is characterized by the formation of cholesterol plaques on the walls of the arteries. They disrupt the normal flow of blood, create vortices that cause pulsating noise.
  • Hypertension or high blood pressure leads to narrowing of the vessels. The higher it is, the stronger may be the ripple in the head when getting out of bed or under any physical exertion.
  • A tumor in the brain can press on the vessel, causing it to narrow. Because of this, there is a ripple in the head, especially noticeable in the morning.

Migraine

This is one of the most common diseases that cause throbbing pain in the head. Migraine is poorly understood, and doctors still do not understand the reasons that cause it, and also why it occurs most often in women. Usually, this disease has a throbbing pain in one half of the head. It can be accompanied by vomiting, vomiting, weakness, sensitivity to loud sounds and bright light.

Diseases of other organs

  • Some kidney diseases associated with impaired urine outflow lead to an increase in the volume of circulating blood. This also has a negative effect on the brain arteries, causing noise at each heart beat.
  • Cervical osteochondrosis often causes pulsation in the occipital part of the head. After all, it leads to a narrowing of the vertebral artery. The current of blood, getting into the vessels of the brain under pressure, causes such a noise.
  • Glaucoma is accompanied by a strong increase in intraocular pressure. This leads to the appearance of pulsations in the temporal and frontal parts of the head.
  • The sinusitis, frontitis and even ordinary sinusitis often cause a feeling of raspiraniya and pulsation of blood in the forehead.

Diagnosis of causes of pulsation

It is very important to see a doctor if these symptoms appear. Indeed, pulsation in the head can be a sign of serious diseases, for example, aneurysm, atherosclerosis or hypertension. Therefore, timely diagnosis will help avoid complications. When addressing a doctor it is important to tell more about your feelings: when and how often there is pulsation, where it is localized, what factors provoke it, whether there are pain. Usually, after collecting this information, the doctor prescribes such diagnostic procedures:

  • Blood and urine tests;
  • MRI or ultrasound of the brain ;
  • Electroencephalogram;
  • Angiography;
  • X-ray of the cervical spine.

It will also be necessary to consult a neurologist, oculist, cardiologist, otolaryngologist, neurosurgeon.

Features of treating this condition

If after the examination there are no serious violations in the state of the vessels, to get rid of pulsations in the head, one needs to change the way of life. Regular physical exercise, proper nutrition, intake of vitamins and lack of stress will easily help to cope with unpleasant sensations. And to relax and relieve the emotional tension, you can apply respiratory gymnastics, do auto-training or yoga.

If a vascular disturbance is detected, first of all, it is necessary to treat the underlying disease. In addition, physical therapy, massage, physiotherapy, hirudotherapy and sanatorium treatment will help to normalize the condition. It is not recommended to take any medications on your own, as this can only hurt yourself more. Only with severe pain can take a pill "Aspirin", "Paracetamol" or "Ibuprofen."

Traditional methods of treatment

As a supplement to the main treatment, you can use a variety of folk recipes. But you can do this only after consulting a doctor. What is the best way to cope with the ripple in your head:
