Pritzker Prize. The winners of the Pritzker Prize for all time

"Oscar" - for filmmakers, the Nobel Prize - for scientists, the Pulitzer Prize - for journalists, musicians, writers. Architects at all times, too, were awarded. It became the prestigious Pritzker Prize.

History

This major world award was the best proof of the success of the architect. Its presentation began in 1979, and the founder of this award was the millionaire Jay A. Pritzker. With their wife, they felt that the lack of architects among the Nobel laureates is a blatant injustice. It was decided to create its own world award, which the architects of the whole world would have sought.

Here already 37 architects received their awards for their enormous talent, gift and creative aspirations. Each of them did not deviate from his personal creative canons, thereby making an extraordinary contribution to the world architecture, leaving behind bright and memorable artistic constructions.

Reward and Ceremony

The winners of the Pritzker Prize for all time received memorable medallions from bronze. They are engraved with the main words that should characterize the winner's work: "Strength. Benefit. Beauty". In addition, each of the winners was compulsorily awarded a financial reward of one hundred thousand dollars.

Each ceremony is always held in the best traditions of the Oscar or the Nobel Prize. The winners of the Pritzker Prize are going to the solemn hall, waiting for their own victory. In general, even be the nominee of this award is honorable. This motivates each creator to take another step towards victory, which will be remembered all over the world.

The Pritzker family

American millionaires who have allowed architects from around the world to show themselves and be rewarded for it are now one of the richest families of the 20th century. It should be noted that almost every member of this huge family is now on the Forbes list.

The life of their family is covered in secrets. There is a legend that at one time the founder of the dynasty fled from Ukraine during the Jewish pogroms. He arrived in America without money. All that he could earn, he, first of all, invested in training at the Faculty of Law, after he was able to organize a law office.

After, having risen to his feet, Pritzker started to buy real estate, and his adult sons continued the work of his father. So, it turned out that architecture is much more important than lawyer business. Now Thomas Pritzker is the president of the Hyatt Foundation, which has a hotel business all over the world.

Laureates

The winners of the Pritzker Prize for all the time were struck with their works in the field of architecture every year. They elevated the artsy buildings, which became ordinary buildings: fire brigades, stadiums, apartment buildings or business centers.

Each of the nominees and laureates created not just an unusual architectural structure. Each of them did something ergonomic, comfortable, spacious and cozy. Annually Pritzker Prize was awarded to architects from any point of the globe, any ideology, nationality and political views.

The greatest number of winners of the architectural award among citizens of the United States, Japan, Great Britain. In 2012, for the first time, the Chinese architect Wang Shu was awarded. In 2004, the woman Zaha Hadid became the winner for the first time.

2016 year

Usually the awarding ceremony takes place in March. Cities choose different, depending on the architecture. The prize was held already in Versailles, Jerusalem, Bilbao, Prague, St. Petersburg and other architectural cities-masterpieces.

This year the nominees were well-known architects Peter Eisenman with the Berlin "Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe", David Chipperfield with the museum "Folkwang", etc. The winner was the 48-year-old Chilean Alejandro Aravena.

The members of the jury identified, first of all, that for his work in the privilege there was never a financial component. The main feature is the care of guests, low energy consumption indicators, and, most importantly, the relief of the consequences of natural disasters.

Famous works of Araven became the campus of the Catholic University. The building is made in cubic form, it has 14 floors, monolithic. For all its heavy appearance, inside it is very light and friendly. This is all because Aravena took care of the holes in the facade, which allowed to cut energy costs by 2/3.

Attempts by Zaha Hadid

Of course, every architect who receives an award deserves attention. But the first woman to become the winner in 2004 was Zaha Hadid. Pritzker Prize has become an impetus for the creative achievements of women. Before receiving the prize, she had only a few ordinary projects in her arsenal.

The victory was for her a real motivation, which led her architectural firm to the enormous volumes of work done. After awarding for one decade under the leadership of Hadid, 950 projects were created. They scattered to 44 countries around the world.

The first failed project Zakha created in 1982 and won with him his first contest. A sports club on top of the mountain interested many specialists. But the reason for abandoning the construction were political tensions, which influenced the future fate of the woman. She returned to London and opened an office.

Further attempts to return to architecture were rather timid and insecure. The fire station, the opera in Cardiff, which was never built, the Center for Contemporary Art Rosenthal. This building was the last project, before the award, which divided her life into "before and after." The Pritzker Prize was awarded in the Hermitage. In St. Petersburg, the woman received a cherished bronze medal and financial support for future projects.

And, already in 2014, Zaha opened her new building in Hong Kong, which was similar to either a rock or a space ship. This Tower of Innovation of the Technical University was like a "voice" from the future. A piece that was pulled out from there, and inserted here, into an imperfect world. Despite the fact that Hong Kong was the destroyer of her talent in the distant 1980s, now he is her fan and a place for creative solutions. On March 31, 2016, Hadid overtook a heart attack, which became a death sentence for her.

Future projects

The world needed an architectural award. Pritzker's award has become for many not just a recognition of their talent, but also the best motivation for creating great projects. Norman Foster from the UK received the award in 1999. He became famous for the London skyscraper - "cucumber". Now, from 2014, his project in Pennsylvania is being realized. By 2017, a tower 336 meters high by 60 floors should be built.

In 2008, the award was given to the French architect Jean Nouvel. His extraordinary decisions and expansion of public consciousness have long been revered by well-known architects, so the awarding of the award seemed belated. Nevertheless, Nouvel could not be awarded. His projects were amazing: residential buildings, public buildings, shopping complexes, cultural institutions, various social facilities and much more. Behind Nouvel's back is a huge number of technologically impeccable objects.

Now Nouvel is working on the construction of two museums in Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo, over the Louvre in Abu Dhabi, over the entertainment centers of Dubai and Kuwait and over a couple of skyscrapers of New York and Paris.

Pritzker Prize for many has become an assistant in the development of a future career. The laureates, who have lived up to our time, are now involved in major projects, which, undoubtedly, will be able to conquer every person.
