Nikon D5100 - dedicated to amateurs

If you are going to buy a mid-range SLR camera and you are offered to try the fastest, lightest or the device with the biggest viewfinder screen, then the outstanding qualities of the proposed sample can at least be checked and evaluated objectively. And what if the camera is average in all parameters, something a little better than its competitors, something a little worse, but in terms of the amount of consumer qualities, it is almost a complete analogue of the devices already on the market? The evaluation in this case will always bear the stamp of subjectivity, some will characterize the camera as good and consider such an investment worthy worthy, while others may begin to enumerate existing or imaginary shortcomings and finally put the camera "unsatisfactory". Let's try nevertheless to deal with the novelty in the middle segment from the company Nikon - Nikon d5100 camera, which replaced the obsolete d5000.

The main characteristics of this camera sound promising: sixteen megapixels, ISO value up to 6400, a viewfinder display with a diagonal of 3 inches, shooting in video mode with quality up to 1080p. The design has also changed, the camera has become rounded and slightly reduced in linear dimensions. The new video processor Expeed 2 was used in the SLR, (the first Expeed was used in the d5100).

Nikon's camera d5100, reviews about it, incidentally, have already appeared on the network, we can state the presence of a complete "gentleman's set" of opportunities that exist in all the cameras of the average amateur level. Including 7 preset shooting modes. Focusing is done on eleven points, there is the possibility of a single-frame and tracking focus. In the continuous shooting Nikon d5100 is able to do up to 4 shots per second. It has two dust removal systems, a flash built into the body, there are USB and HDMI connectors, an external microphone input, a diopter insert on the viewfinder. The display with the ability to rotate and turn adds convenience when taking photos and video.

And yet, when reading reviews about Nikon d5100 cameras, one often finds the opinion that this camera is very comfortable in the hands, its buttons are very carefully thought out and it will not be difficult to get one with one hand. Also, many people note the rather low weight of this SLR - 565 grams (without the lens), a rubberized coating of the case and a long life from one set of batteries.

But the flaws in the device are present, the white balance in Nikon d5100 in the machine sometimes behaves, to put it mildly, strange, taking the picture in yellow, then in cyanosis. It's good that it happens rarely. I am glad that no other problems have been identified from the noticeable problems.

The standard AF-S 18-55 whale lens with plastic bayonet and optical stabilizer is surprisingly very good. Unlike most competitors, for which the standard lens is just a small and short step, which the user is recommended to quickly "step over" by buying more expensive models, the manufacturer did not leave the 18-55 without attention. Sharpness of the kid at a decent level, in macro photography mode are obtained if not excellent - it is already accurate and not "sloppy."

And for those who can not afford to buy for their Nikon d5100 lens 70-300 mm, it will be a pleasant surprise speed of focusing and a significant increase in the maximum distance for shooting. The speed and clarity of the built-in AF drive amaze, for example, you can easily photograph a low flying aircraft. Stabilization is also at a high level, and there are two modes, active and normal, there are not enough stabilizers from the sky, but it helps sometimes very noticeably.

If the operation of the automation does not suit you, you can correct it with a ring of manual focus. I also want to note the very high quality of the standard and telephoto lenses, they are very well held and can be easily removed.
