Geographical location and area of the Voronezh Region

The 51st by the size of the subject of the Russian Federation is in the south-west of the European part of the country. From the capital of the state, it is only 500 km away. The region is a part of the Central Federal District of the Russian Federation. It borders directly on the seven provinces (Kursk, Lipetsk, Tambov, Volgograd, Saratov, Belgorod and Rostov), and also goes to the state border with Ukraine.

The area of the Voronezh region in comparison with many other subjects of the Russian Federation is not so great. However, it occupies not less than a third of the entire Chernozem region (one of the economic regions of the country). The configuration of the region is small. From north to south, it stretches for 277 kilometers, and from west to east by 352 kilometers.

History of the region and its population

The first people settled in this region in the Late Paleolithic. So, the Cro-Magnon camp sites were discovered in the vicinity of Voronezh and near other villages of the region. The process of shaping the outlines of the Voronezh Region began as early as the end of the 16th century, immediately after the foundation of its core, the city of Voronezh. In the 1720s the Azov gubernia was formed on the local lands, from which the Voronezh province a little later emerged .

Education of the Voronezh region was held on June 13, 1934. This date is now celebrated as the Day of the region. It should be noted that after this, the borders of the region have changed many times. The last such change occurred in 1957, when the Voronezh Region increased in size due to the areas of the liquidated Balashov and Kamensk regions.

Today, Voronezh land is home to 2.3 million people. The urban population is 67% of the total. Representatives of dozens of different nationalities live in the Voronezh region. Most of all - Russians (about 95%), Ukrainians, Armenians and Gypsies.

Nature of the region

The region is located in the center of the Russian Plain, which largely determines its relief. The maximum absolute heights do not exceed 260 meters here. The western part of the Voronezh region is most elevated. The most common forms of relief here are ravines, beams and suffosive saucers. There are also karst caves.

The largest rivers of the Voronezh region are the Don and its numerous tributaries (Voronezh, Veduga, Ikorets, Bityug, Devitsa, Potudan and others). The region lies in the belt of the temperate continental climate. The winters here are moderately cold, the summer is warm and fairly humid. During the year about 550-600 mm of precipitation falls, although in the south of the region there are frequent dry winds and local droughts.

The Voronezh Region is located within the steppe and forest-steppe natural zones. Pine and oak-pine forests predominate in the region, occupying about 8% of the territory of the region. Primary steppes are mostly plowed and replaced by agricultural lands. On the territory of the region there are wolves, hares, beavers, foxes, wild boars, roe deer and deer. The world of birds is pretty rich. From rare birds you can meet the bustard, golden eagle and steppe eagle.

The territory of the region is divided into 31 districts and 3 urban districts. In its limits, there are 15 cities, 14 rural settlements and 471 rural settlements. The Voronezh region is one of the dynamically developing regions of Russia. Here one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country is recorded.

The most developed industries in this region are: engineering, chemical industry and energy. Also, the agro-industrial complex is sufficiently developed, in particular, the processing of agricultural raw materials.
