Pear Kokinskaya is a promising variety

As a fruit tree, the pear was known in ancient Greece, Persia and the Roman Empire. More than one thousand varieties are cultivated all over the world. Trees are used not only for obtaining juicy fruits, but also as ornamental plants.

Characteristic of the variety

Pear Kokinskaya (photo in the text) was obtained as a result of crossing of two varieties: Popular and Cure. It received its name from the Kokinsky strongpoint of the All-Russian Selection and Technology Institute of Horticulture and Nursery, where it was created.

Pear Kokin Description:

  • Maturity period is autumn;
  • Medium-sized, wide-pear-shaped fruit weighing 100-200 grams;
  • Yield - up to 100 kg from one tree, with age it rises;
  • Good frost resistance;
  • The variety well resists scab and other fungal diseases, and the fruits are more resistant than foliage;
  • Good transportability;
  • Fructifies for 4-5 years;
  • Propagates by seedlings, seeds, cuttings;
  • Life expectancy up to 25 years.

Advantages and disadvantages

Any fruit plant differs in its merits and demerits. The merits of this variety include amazing fruits of their own taste. Delicate juicy pulp with dessert taste, semi-oily, fine-grained, retains its qualities until November. For this, the fruits collected in late August or early September are stored in refrigerators.

An unpretentious tree with good frost resistance and high yield is very attractive and promising for cultivation in the central strip of the country.

As a drawback, experts note a decrease in the size of the fetus at a high yield.

Agrotechnics

Pear Kokinskaya differs in some features of agricultural technology. For planting, the south-eastern, south-western or southern slopes are well suited. The best soil for plants will be loamy and sandy loam with a reaction pH of 4.5-6.5 (neutral). A high alkaline reaction is harmful to the pear, while acidic, slightly acidic soils increase the resistance of trees to scab. Sandy soil promotes rapid growth, which leads to cracking of the bark.

To plant a seedling, dig a hole up to one meter wide and depth to 80 cm. Planted so that the root neck was above the soil level by at least 5 cm. A very deep planting causes drying of the tips of the branches and a delay in fruiting. The groundwater level should not exceed 2 meters.

Weeds around the trunk are always removed, especially in the first couple of years after planting. The grass between the trees at a height of 15 cm is undermanned and left as a fertilizer.

Pear Kokinskaya has a pyramidal shape, due to the horizontal deflection of the shoots. This procedure is repeated every year in May-June, when the length of shoots reaches 15 cm. Formative pruning is performed after planting of seedlings. Annual plants in spring cut at a height of up to 90 cm, and the biennial removed all branches, leaving 50 cm. The main formation of the crown is carried out in the first three years. Particular attention is paid to the conductor, removing strong vertical shoots.

Despite good frost resistance, pear Kokinskaya needs warming in the first 5 years of life. For winter, the plants are whitened with a chalk solution (for lime grown trees use a lime solution) and warmed, tying the trunks with spruce branches. In addition, mulch sawdust, humus, peat or compost.

Using

Pear Kokinskaya is very tasty fresh. The fruits go for jam and compotes. Pears are great for making jam, marmalade, candied fruits and wine. Traditional medicine and modern pharmacology use the medicinal properties of plants for the treatment of bronchitis and acute respiratory diseases.

Pear wood is highly valued among artists and sculptors for their strength, original design and compliance in processing. It goes to making musical instruments, furniture, toys, souvenirs and even jewelry.
