Osteochondrosis symptoms of which are manifested by pains in the back require immediate and competent treatment in the doctor

Osteochondrosis is a disease of the spine, characterized primarily by damage to the intervertebral discs. Usually, osteochondrosis develops in people over forty years of age, but due to a sedentary lifestyle, metabolic disorders in intervertebral discs can cause the disease much earlier. Intervertebral disks consist of cartilaginous tissue and are designed to perform a kind of damping (damping function) and elastic (providing mobility to the body around its axis) with loads on the spine. In addition, they maintain the distance between the vertebrae, through which the nerve roots pass from the spinal cord to the organs innervated by them. With the loss of elasticity of the cartilaginous tissue of the intervertebral discs, the vertebrae approach together with the compression of the outgoing nerve endings, which causes the basic disorders.

Arising osteochondrosis symptoms of which are well known to many, is characterized, above all, by back pain and mobility limitations. Depending on the height of the lesion of the spine, cervical, thoracic, lumbar forms of osteochondrosis are distinguished. For example, in persons performing physical work, the main load falls on the lumbar region, intervertebral disks of which are damaged in the first place, causing severe pain (so-called "lumbago"). And in people engaged in sedentary labor, most often develops an osteochondrosis of the cervical spine, the symptoms of which, in addition to neck pain, are also characterized by a headache with dizziness. This is due to the fact that in this case not only the nerve roots are affected, but also the vessels (vertebral artery) that feed the ascending parts of the brain are squeezed. In medicine, there is even a special term "vertebral artery syndrome", which is called brain disorders caused by a disease such as osteochondrosis of the neck.

Constant compression of the nerve roots leads to their inflammation, called radiculitis (radiculitis) from the Latin radix (spine) and the end of "itis", which means inflammation. Thus, causes osteochondrosis symptoms of radiculitis, being its main cause. The arising inflammatory process, in turn, causes edema and even more compression of the roots, up to their ischemia and partial dying out. If the osteochondrosis is not treated, its symptoms quickly increase, leading to complete immobilization of affected areas and, as a consequence, disability of the sick person.

Treatment of osteochondrosis can be conservative and surgical. In any case, if there was an osteochondrosis which symptoms are manifested by pain, it is necessary to unload the affected parts of the spine. We need a sparing regimen and we will have to forget about great physical exertions, going over to easy work. If there was a cervical osteochondrosis, the symptoms of which are rather painful, since they are associated with an obsessive headache, then a full redistribution of physical activity is necessary. In the acute phase of the process, when the pain sensations are most pronounced, complete rest and horizontal position is shown on a firm, even and without bending surface. You can lie in a position on your back and without a pillow. From drugs during this period, powerful anti-inflammatory drugs are prescribed, either through the mouth or as injections. Locally used also ointments based on the same anti-inflammatory drugs or on the basis of bee venom. In the latter case, it is necessary to make sure of its tolerability by treating a small, about two centimeter size piece of skin with an ointment containing bee venom and evaluating the reaction within 2-3 hours. If there is hyperemia (severe reddening), and the more bubbles or blisters, then the use in this case of such a composition is strictly prohibited.

To treat an osteochondrosis it is necessary necessarily under the control of the doctor who will pick up necessary preparations in this or that case. Self-medication, especially various folk remedies in the acute phase, is fraught with the progression of the disease with the onset of disability.
