Nikolai Khmelev: biography, personal life, photo, cause of death

In 1939, the film "Man in a Case", directed by Isidor Annensky, appeared on the screens of the country. Perhaps, because this story of A. P. Chekhov was not adapted anymore, but in 1965 the picture of I. Annensky was published in a new edition and again passed through the screens of the country. This tape, in which the great actors Nikolai Khmelev, Mikhail Zharov, Faina Ranevskaya were shot, was really brilliant, and every citizen of the Soviet Union knew the gymnasium teacher of the Greek language Belikov. His cap, dark little eyeglasses and the famous phrase "The Volga flows into the Caspian Sea, as if it did not work!" Were familiar without exaggeration to everyone. It happens that almost one role has made the theatrical actor known throughout the country.

A boy from a good family

Belinova brilliantly played Khmelev Nikolai Pavlovich. He was born on July 23, 1901 in Sormovo, the historical district of Nizhny Novgorod. At the famous Sormovo locomotive plant master worked his father. Mother gave music lessons in well-to-do families, since she was the daughter of a sworn attorney and had a music education. The son had to get a good education and when he reached the right age he was identified in the private real school Sormovo. When it was closed, the boy was transferred to the 2nd Nizhny Novgorod gymnasium.

6th Moscow Gymnasium

In 1916 Nikolai Khmelev moved with his family to Moscow and continued teaching in the 6th Moscow Gymnasium. During these years he became interested in painting and linked his future destiny with the Stroganov School. But literature was close to the young man. The first steps on the theatrical path also refer to the times of training in the Moscow Gymnasium. In concerts he performed with the monologues of Berendey, Osip, Miller and Walsingham from the works (respectively) "The Snow Maiden", "The Inspector General", "The Mermaid" and "Feast during the Plague."

Selecting a path

Obviously, the idea of devoting oneself to the theater has already visited the future people's artist. Because in the year of his admission to the Moscow University, to the History and Philology Department, the Moscow Art Theater announces the reception of artists in the 2nd Studio (existed from 1916 to 1924), and Nikolai Khmelev with the support and assistance of its director and teacher VL Mchedelov , There goes. In addition to the founding fathers of this private studio of Mkhatovite actors N. Massalitinov, N. Podgorny and N. Aleksandrov, known as the three Nicholas, 2 theatrical figures taught such theatrical values as E. Vakhtangov, L. Leonidov, V. Luzhsky.

First steps

In his student works, Nikolai Khmelev pays much attention to the appearance and makeup. This made the role of Firs in the Cherry Orchard, Karp in Lesya, Snegirev in The Brothers Karamazov, so notable that both Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko praised them. And the art of makeup NP Khmelev taught in three studios - Mchedelov, in the 2 nd Mkhatovsk and Zavadsky. Nikolai Khmelev (actor) started his creative career on the stage of the stage classically-not even with "to eat", but with the wordless role of the Messenger (1919).

First notable roles

There were plenty of silent exits, and only in 1923 N. Khmelev played Spiegelberg in "Robbers" Fr. Schiller. This role, not noticed by criticism, was recognized by colleagues, and the next role in the play "Elizaveta Petrovna" was one of the leading ones. Nikolai Pavlovich played Ushakov. In 1925, Nemirovich-Danchenko offers him the role of peasant Marey in K. Trenev's play Pugachevshchina. This role was made by N. Khmelev famous.

High Protection

In the following year, 1926, he plays Alexei Turbin and becomes an acclaimed actor. With the performance "Days of Turbins" by M. A. Bulgakov, set on the stage of the Moscow Art Theater, many legends are associated. The play was liked by Stalin. There is a version that it was after watching the leader that he allowed to celebrate New Year in the country, so he liked the scenes with decorating the Christmas tree. Actor Khmelev Stalin was pleased - three awards of his name are worth something. I especially liked Joseph Vissarionovich for the roles of Karenin and Alexei Turbin.

Its vision of the role

Each subsequent role became a new step to the heights of creativity - Bolshevik-intellectual Peklevanov in "Armored train 14-69" Su. Ivanova (1927), Prince in Fyodor Dostoevsky's Uncle's Dream, Firs in The Cherry Orchard and Tsar Feodor Ioanovich. This role Nikolai Pavlovich receives on the recommendation of the great VM Moskvin. The role of Skorobogatov in the play "Enemies" by AM Gorky also belongs to luck. Each image, played by NP Khmelev, differed only in his inherent characteristics, for each he found peculiar accents. The prince in "Uncle's Dream" in the performance of Khmelev is not as ridiculous as he is tragic.

Theater them. Ermolova

In 1932, Nikolai Khmelev (photo attached) opens his studio, which existed until 1937, joined the theater. Ermolova. Nikolai Pavlovich becomes the artistic director of this theater, and the first production on the new stage - "There was not a penny, but suddenly Altyn" - enjoyed immense popularity. In this position he stayed until his death, which came in 1945. In 1941, NP Khmelev received the first Stalin Prize for outstanding creative achievements.

Prizes received by right

In 1942, the actor was awarded the second Stalin Prize for the role of engineer Zabelin in the "Kremlin chimes" N. Pogodin. When the theater was in evacuation (since 1941), NP Khmelev was appointed head of the artistic part of the Moscow Art Theater, the director in 1943 was M. Moskvin. Among the great successes, such a theatrical role as Tuzenbakh in the performance "Three Sisters" by Anton Chekhov, staged in 1940, can be attributed. Some researchers of the actor's creativity believe that it was she who topped the skill of Nikolai Pavlovich Khmelev. All the roles and performances of the last years of life were successful. For the "Last Victim" of A. Ostrovsky, delivered to him in the Moscow Art Theater in 1944, posthumously, Nikolai Pavlovich was awarded the third Stalin Prize.

Sudden death

Nikolai Khmelev, whose biography broke off on November 1, 1945, died as a great artist - on stage. He rehearsed the role of Ivan the Terrible in the play "Hard Years" by AN Tolstoy. There was a dress rehearsal, the actor fell, he was transferred to a first-row chair. The doctor who arrived came to realize that NP Khmelev was not transportable, that he was dying. The great actor was moved to a small room behind the avant-garde, since the evening performance started in the theater (why not cancel it?). The "Dead Souls" were going, to loud music at the governor's ball and the laughter of the unsuspecting audience was dying in the make-up and costume of the king Khmelev Nikolai Pavlovich. The cause of death is paralysis and cardiac arrest.

Personal life

He was only 44 years old. In such cases, it is customary to say that a person "burned down at work" - staging at the Gypsy Theater and him. Ermolova, there was a lot of work in the Moscow Art Theater as well. In addition, the second wife of Nikolai Khmelev was the beautiful Lyalya Chernaya, who had left him for Yangshin for great love. But the soul of this actress was gypsy, gay and free-standing songs and dances until the morning in the two-story apartment of N. Khmelev. They say that gypsies and fires were kindled there. Yes, and time contributed to the disease, here and could not stand Nikolai Khmelev. The personal life of the artist in 1943 was marked by the fact of the birth of Alyosha's son, who was two on the 2nd day after his father's death.

Some facts

To the above, one can add the fact that the grand-nephew of N. Khmelev, his namesake and namesake (though not complete, Yevgenyevich's patronymic, Alyosha's son had no children) is an actor of the Mayakovsky Theater. He became known to the general public after filming in the series "Kremlin cadets". Concluding the article, we can add that Nikolai Pavlovich Khmelev was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and medals and, as noted above, was awarded the USSR State Prizes (the former Stalin) in 1941, 1942 and 1946. Among the films, one can note the role in the film "Generation of the winners", published in 1936. Buried N. P. Khmelev at the Novodevichy Cemetery in Moscow.
