Myopia of the 1st degree. What is it and how to treat it?

The result of technical progress and universal computerization is the rapid deterioration in people's eyesight . According to statistics, about one in every third inhabitant of the planet observed myopia, or myopia, 1 degree. What is it was known back in the time of Aristotle, who noticed that some people are screwed up when looking at distant objects. But then it was a rarity, now many people can clearly see only what is close to them. Usually the disease develops in childhood, and by the age of 15 a third of schoolchildren are diagnosed with grade 1 myopia.

What it is

A healthy eye sees because the rays of light, reflected from different objects, are projected onto its retina and create an image. If myopia develops, it happens because the eyeball is slightly elongated. As a result, the image is projected not on the retina, but slightly ahead of it. Therefore, the person with myopia sees the removed objects indistinctly. Modern specialists believe that this can occur due to the underdevelopment of the muscles of the lens. Therefore, the eye becomes more oval and can not normally perform its functions. The disease can be of different types. By how far the image is projected from the retina, the myopia of a weak, medium and strong degree is distinguished. There is still short-sightedness progressing or complicated by other diseases of the eye. But most often occurs myopia 1 degree. What it is, is known to many mothers of school-age children. The disease usually begins before age 18. Then vision can only get worse or stay at the same level.

Causes of the disease

  1. Heredity .

    Specialists estimated that more than half of the children whose both parents are sick with myopia have poor eyesight. If the parents are healthy, then only 10% may develop short-sightedness.
  2. Non-observance of the rules of hygiene of sight .

    Long-term use of the computer and mobile devices or improper position of the body and lighting during reading quickly lead to poor eyesight. Excessive eye strain when viewing small objects causes relaxation of the muscles holding the lens in its normal state.

  3. Incorrect food .

    Due to the lack of certain vitamins and trace elements in the diet, for example, zinc and manganese, leads to improper development of scleral tissues.

  4. Vascular diseases.

    They lead to insufficient blood supply to the tissues of the eye.

  5. Other disorders in health.

    This can be birth trauma, severe infectious diseases, hormonal failures, poisoning with drugs or chemicals. All this adversely affects the state of vision.

Symptoms of the disease

Most often, myopia of degree 1 of both eyes is observed in children 7 years old. Sometimes it is difficult for parents to recognize the first symptoms of the disease. They can only manifest themselves in that the child often squints or tilts his head to consider Something that is in the distance. When reading and looking at related subjects, problems do not arise. This is the main symptom of the disease, therefore, having noticed it, it is necessary to show the child to the doctor. If the treatment is not started on time, myopia can progress. Most often, it occurs before the age of 20-22, but the deterioration of vision may be in older age. Progressing myopia without treatment can lead to retinal detachment and blindness. To the deterioration of the eyes are sometimes added frequent headaches and rapid visual fatigue. Therefore, one must seriously take into account the fact that the child was diagnosed with "myopia of the 1st degree".

How to treat the disease

Now there are three ways to improve vision:

  1. Correction with glasses and lenses.
  2. Treatment with gymnastics, physiotherapy or vitamin therapy.
  3. Surgical intervention - laser correction or scleroplasty.

Usually, the method of treatment is chosen by the doctor depending on the age of the patient, the state of his health and the degree of vision impairment. It is easiest to help a child if he has a grade 1 myopia. Treatment in this case will consist in the fact that a small patient is assigned glasses, which he must not wear all the time. Also prescribed are special exercises for the eyes, vitamins with lutein, color pulse therapy, electric sound, phonophoresis and pneumomassage. Up to 22 years, correction of vision with the help of surgery is carried out only in very rare cases.

Myopia 1 degree in children

In pre-school age, very rarely occurs acquired myopia. Most often the disease has an innate character. If this happens, then the first symptoms are observed before the age of 1 year. Later the likelihood of myopia development
Decreases, because the child's eye grows and its structure changes. Usually vision begins to deteriorate in children at school age. This is due to increased visual load and non-compliance with hygiene rules. To correct the disease in the age of up to 20 years old glasses are used, which are not necessarily worn constantly. To properly select the glasses, you need to accurately determine the state of vision of the child. For this, when examined in the eye, "Atropine" is instilled, causing relaxation of the ciliary muscle.

Prevention of myopia

To prevent vision from getting spoiled, preventive measures should be taken. Most of this applies to children from 7 years of age, because in adults, seldom nearsightedness is progressing. What should I do:

  • To monitor the nutrition of the child, he should receive with food all the necessary vitamins and trace elements;
  • Ensure correct landing and lighting when reading and writing;
  • Do not allow a long time watching TV and finding a computer;
  • Teach the child to perform special offers for the eyes.

Now more and more children graduate from school, having a diagnosis of "myopia 1 degree." What it is, you need to know the parents to prevent the deterioration of vision.
