Motorcycle tuning "Minsk" - new opportunities for light motorcycle

Motorcycle "Minsk" is a legendary product of the Soviet and post-Soviet era, one of the most popular two-wheeled vehicles in the latitudes of the CIS. This light vehicle with an engine capacity of 125 cu. Cm was very popular and was released in quite a large volume. The secondary market is literally filled with offers to sell this motorcycle. It is simple in design and maintenance, unpretentious, cheap enough, perfect for a beginner. All these qualities also attracted masters and individualists, thanks to which the tuning for the motorcycle "Minsk" became very popular, in view of its comparative simplicity and decent result. Thanks to technical tuning in Soviet times, these models participated in sports competitions, cross-country.

Why you need tuning

The meaning of any tuning is primarily to configure the vehicle in accordance with their needs. This applies to both the technical side and the appearance. Internal (technical) tuning of a motorcycle means forcing of the engine, change of a suspension bracket, brakes. Finalization of the exterior provides for painting, polishing, chrome-plating, installation of additional, including aerodynamic body kits. The tuning of the motorcycle "Minsk", both external and internal, can not only be done, but even necessary. The matter is that at release of this vehicle engineers first of all were guided by availability and simplicity. And nevertheless, no matter how simple it may seem, the potential of "Minsk" is present, which means that there is much room for improvement.

Reduction of intake losses

The engine is the main component of any vehicle. For motorcycles it is the power unit that gives the basis for the design and shape of the frame, the characteristics of the suspension. Forcing an engine is the main operation of tuning a motorcycle both in a complex and for individual units. The task of forcing is to increase the engine power.

One way is to reduce intake losses. The first air supply obstruction is the air filter. As a rule, the original air filter on "Minsk" is paper, less often kapron or metal. Excess will specify that the bandwidth of such filters leaves much to be desired.

Spreading air filters based on foam rubber, used on foreign motorcycles. Such filter elements have minimal resistance to air at the inlet, while possessing good cleaning characteristics. To reduce the vibration and noise level of the air at the inlet between the carburetor and the filter, a receiver-container (usually plastic) is installed approximately 10 times the volume of the cylinder.

Improving the quality of the air-fuel mixture

The formation of a fuel-air mixture in this vehicle takes place in the carburetor. To reduce losses at this stage, the jets and the surface of the diffuser are polished. Such tuning of the motorcycle "Minsk" can be carried out with the help of a thick rigid thread and paste "Goi". The amount of fuel mixture entering the cylinder depends on the diameter of the diffuser.

A significant increase in maximum speed can only be achieved by replacing the carburetor. In the 90s, carburetors of the Japanese company Mikuni, manufactured at that time in India, were installed on Minsk. With the correct adjustment, the motorcycle was more dynamic, had a greater pulling force at low revs.

When tuning the carburetor, the parameters specified in the instruction should serve only as a starting point, but not reference values. Any carburettor is adjusted individually. An important detail is the tightness of the adjoining planes: the carburetor and the adapter. The tightness of the joint significantly affects the life of the engine.

Increase of working volume

One of the most common ways to increase engine power is to increase the working volume. The tuning of the motor of the motorcycle "Minsk" provides for the boring of the cylinder liner, but not more than the second repair size. Exceeding this standard will inevitably lead to problems with strength, selection of ring size and pistons. As a result, the result does not justify the costs. As an option, it is possible to completely replace the cylinder with a different, larger working volume, but in this case the difficulties with the coincidence of the purge channels are unavoidable, so this technique should also not be considered optimal.

Refinement of the standard cylinder

The best solution is the tuning of the motorcycle "Minsk 125" with the completion of its standard cylinder. First of all, it is necessary to eliminate the possible displacements of the purge and bypass windows. From their correct position depends the purging of the fuel mixture in the two-stroke engine, which directly affects the acceleration dynamics, economy and top speed. For this, the excess metal is removed from the liner, previously extracted from the cylinder, by a mechanical or manual tool. All the work involves raising the window by 2 mm, boring the radius of the curves and rounding the sharp edges. Such inner tuning of the motorcycle "Minsk" can increase the number of maximum revolutions by 1000.

Exhaust system adjustment

A significant impact on the power of two-stroke engines is provided by the exhaust gas system. The tuning of the motorcycle "Minsk" does not provide for the completion of the exhaust system due to inexpediency. The best solution is to replace it completely, you can, as an alternative yourself, make a silencer by the type of resonator. In addition, the exhaust system needs to be adjusted, which, if properly performed, can add 10 to 15% of the power.
