Care for the bar-like millet

The rod-shaped millet is a short-grain grass, which has a very powerful root system, penetrating three or more meters into the depth.

The bush grows rather dense, high. Different varieties require different soils: both light sandy and heavy clayey, and dry, and moderately moist. The acidity of the soil for millet is not very important.

Here it is important to clearly understand: to obtain beautiful bushes, brightly colored leaves and panicles, it is better to plant millet on poor, moderately dry soils.

Fertile moist soils are perfect for growth and rapid multiplication of millet-like millet, but the coloring will not be so intense and spectacular. That is why the plant does not require frequent and intensive fertilizing. It is enough to feed one or two times per season with mineral or organic fertilizer.

A place for planting choose a sunny, blushing foliage in some varieties here will look much better. In the shade, the leaves can remain green.

But the variety with the blue color of foliage can be planted and in a darkened place, and in the penumbra they will look very decorative.

Millet grows late enough, usually by the end of May. Initially, all varieties of leaves are green, and only in July, when the panicles appear, the plant gradually turns into its characteristic color.

At the end of the season, the plants are very bright and elegant. Serious frosts damage them, but they still are no less attractive until the snow, and even in the winter trimmed panicles look beautiful.

Reproduction

The millet is twisted in a vegetative way: once in three years in spring the overgrown bush can be divided.

At the same time, it must be excavated from the soil, divided by a shovel or a sharp knife into several pieces and planted back. Too small delenki to leave it is not necessary, from them bushes happen small and rare.
