Marina Stepnova was born in the Tula region in the city of Ephraim on September 2, 1971. The maiden name of the writer is Rovner. Her father was a soldier, and his mother was a doctor. When the girl was 10 years old, her family moved to the capital of Moldova Chisinau, where in 1988 she graduated from the 56th secondary school and entered the Chisinau State University. The first three years Marina studied there at the Faculty of Philology, and then transferred to the Moscow Literary Institute named after Gorky to study for an interpreter. In 1994, the future writer received a master's degree in the institute and a diploma with honors. After this, Marina went to study in graduate school, where she studied in depth the work of AP Sumarokov.
