M53 - the route. Number of trails on the map

Perhaps there is no other state in the world where the communication routes between cities and regions would be of the same paramount importance as in Russia. Only roads unite grandiose geographical spaces into a single country. And the numbers of tracks on the map here are familiar and understandable not only by drivers-truckers.

From Western Siberia to the Eastern

The federal highway M53, for short, referred to as "Siberia", passes through the Novosibirsk, Tomsk, Kemerovo regions and the Krasnoyarsk Territory. It ends in the Irkutsk region. In some sources this road is denoted by the code word "Baikal", which is fundamentally untrue - the world's largest freshwater lake is east of Irkutsk, in which it ends. This designation can be considered correct only for the whole historical path from the Urals to Lake Baikal. And the M53-route is only part of this route. And it has a completely official designation - "Siberia". The cities through which the M53-route passes are among the largest historical, industrial and cultural centers of Siberia. The total length of this road is 1860 kilometers. When moving from west to east, the M53-route is a direct continuation of the federal motor road M51 Irtysh, which runs from the South Urals to Novosibirsk through Kurgan and Omsk. And east of Irkutsk, the movement towards the Pacific Ocean continues along the federal highway M55, which is heading towards Ulan-Ude and further to Chita.

From the history of communications

The modern M53 route on the map makes a distance on the historical route from central Russia to the Pacific Ocean. This oldest Trans-Siberian land route appeared in the middle of the eighteenth century. Of course, in those early times there were no bridge crossings across the great Siberian rivers, and the various sections of the road, known in historical sources as the "Moscow tract," were not stable. On many sites, they were duplicated and represented more directional directions than fully equipped roads. But the bridges and roads were built gradually, as the Russian Empire moved eastward. And one of the bridge passages is well known even to those who have never been to Siberia. M53-route passes in Krasnoyarsk on the bridge across the Yenisei. It is he who is depicted on a bank note in ten rubles.

Number of trails on the map of Russia

Currently, the territory of the Russian Federation has the road designations adopted in the Government Decree of November 17, 2010. This document defines new designations for some routes of federal significance. In particular, they are designated by the prefix "M", as coming from Moscow. But at the same time, the previous codification system remains in force. Its operation ceases on January 1, 2018. In the new system of codification of routes there is no division of them into categories - on the main and secondary. But there is a tendency to increase the ordinal numbers of the routes as they move away from the capital.

Route M53 today

At present, the construction of the federal highway "Siberia" in any case can not be called complete. Despite the fact that cargo and passenger transportation is carried out on a 24-hour basis throughout the entire route, the road surface leaves much to be desired in many of its sections, and quite often it is completely absent. Works on the repair and construction of the highway did not stop almost never. The infrastructure of the roadside service also needs improvement. The road builders have to overcome significant difficulties. This is due primarily to complex soils. For a considerable length, they require preliminary strengthening before they can be erected on the future road. Many settlements cross the track directly along the central street. So it happened historically. This did not create any problems until the beginning of the twentieth century, while the main mode of transport was horse-drawn. But now it is necessary to invest considerable funds in the construction of bypass sites around populated areas.

Distance Novosibirsk - Kemerovo

At its initial stage, the federal highway M53 passes mainly along the flat terrain. From Novosibirsk the road goes to the north, to Tomsk. But she does not enter this city, turning to the right to Kemerovo. To Tomsk, turn left, the road branch is indicated on the maps with the same M53 designation as the whole route. The condition of the roadway all along the route to Kemerovo is quite satisfactory. The width of the roadway is seven meters. The road surface is asphalt concrete. Of the significant water barriers - only the Tom River, the bridge across it is not far from Kemerovo. According to statistics, at this distance the number of accidents is minimal.

Plot Kemerovo - Irkutsk

This is the most difficult part of the route. A hard road surface is not found here in all areas. Particularly difficult is the segment of the route Kemerovo-Mariinsk, passing along the elevated terrain. The road here crosses a large taiga massif, and its outlines become serpentine in nature. After the Mariinsky track is leveled, and the road becomes quieter. Behind the former post DPS "Bogotol" is a convenient place for parking and rest. There are structures of roadside service in the form of cafes and motels. After Achinsk, the traffic on the road becomes more animated, this is affected by the approach of the big city - Krasnoyarsk. The city itself the M53 trail passes along its outskirts, along the northern bypass. And then there is the final part of the route to Irkutsk. On this segment there are complex sections of the road, without a hard coating. The largest number is in the Tayshet area. Especially difficult here is when precipitation falls.

What you need to remember on the road "Siberia"

Movement along the Siberian roads has its own specifics. It is determined by geography and climate. The M53-route map is able to demonstrate how much distance you have to overcome on the way from one settlement to another. Any failure of technology on the road can leave you alone with the problems that have arisen. Therefore, it is best to travel along the Siberian routes, as was the case in ancient times, as part of caravans. This is especially true in the winter period. The climate in Siberia is sharply continental, with a large annual temperature difference. This means that in the summer it is quite hot here, and in winter it is very cold. Very often , snowdrifts occur that greatly impede traffic along the highway.

The Moscow Gate in Irkutsk

An interesting historical monument directly connected with the federal highway M53 is the triumphal arch in Irkutsk. It was erected in 1813 on the banks of the Angara. At this point, the Moscow route began, a distant journey from Eastern Siberia to the central regions of Russia. And the arch, erected in honor of the Emperor Alexander the First, opened it. An expressive architectural monument, made in the style of classicism, was demolished not in the Soviet era, but before the outbreak of World War I. The city authorities at that time did not find the money to repair it. But it was restored in its original form already in our time, on the same foundation, exactly 200 years after the completion of the original.
