Kolbein Sigtorsson - one of the best scorers in the history of Iceland

Kolbein Sigtorsson is an Icelandic striker, who most of all remembers his performances for the Dutch "Ajax". Also it is worth noting that he is one of the best scorers in the history of the Icelandic team - he scored 22 goals in 44 matches, and he is behind this figure only to Eidur Goodyonsen, who has 26 goals for the national team. But Kolbein is only 26 years old, so he has every chance of catching up with Eydur, who has already retired. Kolbein Sigtorsson is a very interesting player who managed to play in various leagues and for different clubs.

Carier start

Born Kolbein Sigtorsson March 14, 1990 in Iceland, and already at six years old boy joined the football academy of the club "Vikingur", based in his native Reykjavik. There he spent six years, until in 2003 he was called to his more impressive club "Koupavogs". It was there that Kolbein opened up - already at an early age he showed incredible abilities, an assists and an impressive blow. Thanks to this in 2006, at the age of 16, he managed to make his debut in the adult team and played five matches, in which he scored one goal. Naturally, this attracted the attention of other European clubs, playing in more powerful leagues. So, in the summer of 2007 Kolbein Sigtorsson was in the academy of the Dutch "AZ".

Transfer to AZ

In 2008, Colbane Sigtorsson, a footballer with high expectations, became an adult, and the club signed a professional contract with him. However, the game practice at first he received only in a double. Only in the season of 2010/2011 Colbane was able to break into the base and immediately all struck, scoring 18 goals in 43 games. Naturally, Amsterdam "Ajax" in the summer of 2011 acquired a young talent for four million euros.

Playing in Ajax

Kolbein Sigtorsson, whose photographs began to appear in all Dutch sports publications, did not immediately become a player of the foundation in "Ajax", but even leaving the bench, he showed an impressive result.

In the first two seasons he appeared on the field only 37 times, but scored 16 goals. In the next two seasons he went on the field much more often - in the number of 68 times, scoring 19 goals. In this case, three times Kolbein, together with "Ajax" became the champion of Holland.

Moving to France

In the summer of 2015, Kolbein decided to change something in his career and moved to France, to Nantes, which paid him three million euros for Ajax. In "Nantes" Sigtorsson did not show those results, which was famous in Holland, - for 29 matches he scored only four goals. Therefore, a year later it was decided to send him to "Galatasaray", where at the moment he had two matches, not scoring a single goal, and was injured, after which he is now recovering.

National team appearances

As already mentioned earlier, Sigtorsson is one of the best scorers in the history of Iceland - in 44 games he scored 22 goals. He made his debut in March 2010 in a friendly against the Faroe Islands, and then scored his first goal. Already in February 2013, Kolbein first brought his team to a match with Russia in the captain's armband.

When Iceland sensationally made its way to the European Championships in 2016 and performed miracles there, reaching the quarterfinals, Sigtorsson in all matches came out at the bottom, while scoring two goals - in the 1/8 finals to the British and in the quarterfinals to the French.
