Keratitis: treatment of the eye cornea

Keratitis is a common disease of modern ophthalmology, which is characterized by inflammation of the cornea of the eye of bacterial or viral origin. In medical practice, there is also a corneal lesion of fungal ethnology, however, this phenomenon is rarely diagnosed. In addition, the cornea of the eye can be traumatized, then post-traumatic keratitis progresses, the treatment of which requires urgent medical attention.

It should be clarified that this is a very serious disease that can lead to unfortunate consequences, so it is just necessary to know the causes that cause pathology. Most often they are pathogenic bacteria, penetrating from the outside into the tissue of the cornea. Also, the progress of the pathological process is promoted by microtrauma, corneal scratch, corneal epithelial erosion, and the state of the immune system of the potential patient plays a more important role. In the latter case we are talking about a variety such as herpetic keratitis, the treatment of which should be timely. So, such anomaly dominates in patients and weakened organisms, and also progresses significantly against the background of intraocular surgery and regular wearing of lenses. In addition, we should not exclude the fact that the disease can worsen due to the strongest avitaminosis even in an absolutely healthy person.

Complex physiological anomaly - this is how keratitis itself is positioned, its treatment depends on a number of factors. However, before "embarking" on productive healing, it is necessary to understand the dynamics of this pathology. With the development of keratitis, the first thing that catches your eye is the apparent opacity of the cornea, as it should normally be transparent. Keratitis causes discomfort in the eye area, in particular, tearing, burning, itching, photophobia, redness and swelling of the affected organ of vision. Sometimes there are mucous discharges, however, in the case of neuroparalytic and herpetic keratitis, they are absent. Usually deep cores mainly dark in color are visualized in the corneal tissue, but they contain a huge number of small branches of red color. There may be other alarm signals, it all depends on the clinical picture in each individual case.

If by the detailed diagnosis of the cornea of the eye the diagnosis of "keratitis" has been approved, the treatment should be prescribed immediately, and it should be recalled that it has a complex character that depends entirely on the characteristics of the organism and the specific pathology. The main therapeutic method is the administration of eye drops containing antibacterial and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Also, it is appropriate to treat the medications dilating the pupil, which is extremely necessary to prevent the formation of adhesions within the eye. In the course of productive treatment often appear such medications as Dexamethasone or Betamethasone. An additional role is played by keratoprotective, epithelializing drugs, and in more neglected situations it is recommended to perform injections of antibiotics for the mucous eyes. Quite harmless against the background of the rest is viral keratitis, the treatment of which is limited to taking antiviral drugs.

However, the conservative method has its limitations: if within a month he did not give the expected results, and visual acuity dropped sharply, the patient undergoes a corneal transplant. To prevent recurrences of herpetic nature, the introduction of an antiherpetic vaccine, which today is a kind of innovation in the world of ophthalmology, is shown.

Anyway, a serious diagnosis of "keratitis", the treatment of which should be started as early as possible in order to avoid a complete loss of vision.
