Ixodid mites are the main enemies of animals in the warm season

At the onset of warm sunny days, various ectoparasites, including ixodid mites, begin their active life, which in some cases can carry serious diseases. Especially dangerous are these parasites in May-June and August-September, when the greatest probability of infection.

Dwell blood-sucking parasites among vegetation (and not necessarily thick). They can be found both in wooded areas and grass meadows, and on urban lawns and shrubs. Ixodid mites can not jump and fly, they wait for their prey and cling to it. They can also feel carbon dioxide at a distance of up to 1.5 meters, which secretes warm-blooded animals and creeps toward them.

The main problem that ixodid mites bear is not bites, but living in them (or rather, in their saliva) harmful pyroplasmoses that affect the nervous system. Therefore, finding out on the animal a lot of parasites that are not infected with pyroplasmosis, you do not have to worry. Favorite Pet does not fall ill. But the whole trouble is that it is impossible to find out whether a tick is infectious.

If ixodid mites were found in dogs, the disease manifests itself approximately 5-7 days after the bite. The incubation period of infection can last from 5 days to 2-3 weeks. At this time, no noticeable changes occur to the dog. In the future, the disease and its symptoms occur in different ways. It depends on the immunity of the animal. More susceptible to infection by pyroplasmosis puppies and dogs under the age of 1 year, animals with weakened immunity (after the disease) and are in stressful situations.

There are three forms of lesion pyroplasmosis: acute, chronic and latent. The acute form is characterized by the fact that the pet sharply changes behavior, becomes sluggish, weak, loses interest in everything that is happening, appetite disappears, body temperature rises to 42 degrees (the norm is 38.5), the mucous membranes of the eyes acquire a yellowish or pale hue, urine Becomes red-brown color. Erythrocytes are destroyed in the body, as a result of which work in all important organs is disrupted.

The chronic form is manifested by blurred symptoms, it is not always possible to establish the cause of the disease in time. With a latent form, the disease is almost impossible to recognize.

Ixodes ticks in cats cause slight irritation at the site of the bite, but they also carry the danger of infection. Among them there may be a disease of mycoplasmosis, still known as gemobartenellosis. After the ixodid mites have drunk blood, which is about 6-10 days, they fall away from the animal. Remove the tick from the skin of an infected pet can be tweezers, gently taking the parasite tool as close to the animal's skin as possible. Often on cats and cats there are a small number of ticks, in this case they must be removed and the animal treated with local insecticides.

Having removed the tick from the animal, it must be destroyed. But it's not so easy. They do not sink in water, they are almost impossible to dry. Do not try to crush them. You can spread the infection. It is best to drown blood-suckers in alcohol or burn them.
