American Bandog: a description of the breed, features of the content. Fight dogs of dogs

As a result of crossing the pit bull terrier with the Neapolitan mastiff , a breed of dogs was taken out, called the American bandog. It was originally created as a fighting one, and its representatives often acted as great watchmen and hunters.

Description of the breed

This is a fairly large dog - the height at the withers can reach 73 cm, and the average weight - up to 65 kg. The muscular body is proportionally proportionate, the stomach is tightened, the thorax is well developed. The transition to the muzzle is very pronounced. The nose is usually black, but spots are allowed depending on the color of the animal.

Small, slightly slanted brown eyes are set far apart. Ears as a result of cupping have a triangular shape.

The dropped tail, tapering towards the end, resembles a strong tight rope. In an excited state, it can be lifted.

The coat is short, stiff, it can be white, black or spotted. Common colors are also red or brown. On the paws often there are white spots.

History of occurrence

The first mention of the bandoges is attributed to the beginning of the XIV century - the so-called huge mastiff-like dogs that sat on the chains during the day and guarded the territory at night. They were very aggressive and dangerous animals, instilling fear with one of its kind. It is assumed that they occurred from dogs that participated in battles with bulls. Powerful ferocious dogs tore the ropes, rushing into battle. This is where their name comes from - the word "bandog" means "a chain dog". When bloody entertainment with bulls and dogfights were banned, the bandol found application as a protector of the farms from the invasion of badgers and foxes.

In the early 70s of the last century, the veterinarian Svingford brought modern bandogs. Interestingly, the American bandog is not a purebred dog. This is the result of crossing the mastiff and pit bull terrier. In this case the offspring always leave much to be desired. Crossing the bandogs with each other gives, in the end, a smaller offspring.

Today these dogs are used more often for protection or in power structures.

Character and features of behavior

Despite the fact that the bandog - an animal very intelligent, it has a strong-willed temper. It is not recommended to start such a breed to inexperienced breeders - it requires constant attention and training. But with proper upbringing, a great guard and defender is obtained from the bandolga. He is very distrustful of outsiders, so visitors come to his attention. With other pets and with children, the bandog knows how to find a common language, but does not tolerate familiarity. Choosing for himself one master-leader, the rest of the family he will just tolerate.

These dogs are able to determine by the movements of a person his intentions. If they decided to play with her, she will gladly accept the invitation and frolic. But if you notice a danger or aggression in the movement of a person, it will be defended. The American bandog represents a serious danger to the thief, since he does not snarl, but simply suddenly attacks, depriving the thief of a part of the body who has crept into the house at times.

Content

These dogs are unpretentious and do not require any special care. It is recommended to comb the hair once a week in order to remove the dead hairs and for hygiene purposes. To do this, use a special brush or rubber comb. Often, the pet should not be bathed, it is usually done only in case of severe pollution.

Like all other breeds, the bandage needs hygienic procedures. It is necessary to regularly inspect the ears and clean them with a cotton swab. These dogs with age often develop diseases of the eyes and the musculoskeletal system. Therefore, periodically it is necessary to visit the veterinary clinic with the pet. Timely preventive measures will help to avoid serious health problems. When keeping a dog in an apartment, a pet needs to provide long and active walks.

Feeding rules

Like any fighting dog, the bandog (a description of the breed counts it specifically for this group) needs a full-fledged diet to make up for its energy spent. In addition, proper feeding is very important for the prevention of all kinds of diseases.

The main part of the food should be meat (preferably beef). To it you can add offal, cereals (especially useful buckwheat, oatmeal, rice), sour-milk products, eggs boiled. Vegetables should also be present in the diet of this dog, but in small quantities.

Education and training

A dog like an American bandog should be educated from the very first days of the appearance of a puppy in the house so that he can perceive all the requirements as part of his life. In this case, it is better for an inexperienced dog-breeder to seek help from a professional cynologist. It is important to find a common language with the dog, at the same time becoming for her a real leader and authority. Otherwise, an eerie story may occur, like those that sometimes flash through the press, describing the cases of attack of fight dogs on people.

Physical punishment is absolutely unacceptable with respect to Bandog. It is necessary to constantly communicate with him, developing it not only physically, but also intellectually.

Buying a puppy

Acquire a dog of this breed follows only in a well-established nursery or from a trusted breeder. It happens that people with insufficient experience breed the bandog. It should be remembered that the puppy perfectly absorbs from his parents not only positive, but also negative qualities. Therefore, it makes sense to visit the breeder more than once, to get to know him and the puppy's parents more closely. It is known that the stability of the psyche of a dog directly depends on the degree of its purebredness. The American bandol is no exception. The price of the puppies of this breed is almost the same as that of the bull terrier puppies. On average, it is about 300 dollars.

Other Fighting Breeds

In fact, this classification does not exist. Dog fights appeared a long time ago, and some breeds were brought out to participate in them. But in addition, fighting dogs were also used for hunting large animals. Many of them were subsequently withdrawn directly for this purpose.

Fight dogs are:

  1. English bulldog. Was brought out to participate in the hunt for a bear. Despite the small size, these dogs have a powerful physique and unruffled disposition.
  2. English Mastiff. This is one of the largest dogs. It used to be used to harass a bear. Today, it is a formidable watchman, capable of frightening off any intruder by his own appearance.
  3. English Staffordshire Bull Terrier. It is derived from the crossing of an English bulldog with terriers. Known as a gladiator dog, but after the popularity of dog fights has declined, he has become an excellent companion for his master.
  4. American pit bull terrier. Has won notoriety due to attacks on people, the demand for these dogs has recently declined. Although undeserved - because the fault for the behavior of the dog completely lies on the owner.
  5. Sharpei. Many perceive it as a sofa animal. In fact, this is a typical representative of fighting dogs. This is how it was used in its homeland - in China.

Not only the American bandog, but also many other breeds, deduced for the purpose of participating in dogfights, today are simply members of the family and favorite pets.
