Heads face - that necessarily should be at each motorist

The end heads appeared more than two centuries ago - at the turn of the XVIII-XIX centuries - since people learned to build complex machines and mechanisms (steamers, locomotives, machine tools, etc.), which included nuts and bolts that It was possible to unscrew only from the butt. Since then, a lot of time has passed, both the mechanisms themselves and the tools for their maintenance have been perfected, but the original design and the principle of action of the end heads remained practically unchanged.

The life of a modern motorist, and even more so of car repair workers or a tire fitting workshop - is difficult to imagine without this universal tool. A set of face heads along with a jack and a spare wheel is an indispensable attribute of any motorist. Using a movable handle, it is possible to unscrew the screws, nuts and other fasteners in any hard-to-reach places and at any angle where the horn or spanner can not cope .

Types of end heads

The end heads are classified according to the following main parameters:

  • In form. Usually used six- and twelve-sided. As the name implies, hexahedral heads are used to unscrew hexagonal heads, and twelve-sided heads use twelve-sided profiles. In addition to conventional hexagonal end heads, there are heads with a dynamic profile that provide not only the coverage of the corners of the hexagon, but also an auxiliary side contact. Due to the maximum load distribution, any damage to both the unscrewed part and the tool itself is excluded.
  • By lenght. The end-face extensions are used when working with a complex elongation or with fasteners located in the recess.
  • By appointment. General and special. To special are, for example, candle heads, which differ from the usual ones in that they have a special device (ball, magnet, elastic) for fixing the candle.
  • By the sizes of connecting squares. The size of the connecting square depends on the size of the end head itself. Usually it is from 1/4 inch (for heads 4 to 14 mm in size) to 1 inch (for heads of 38-80 mm)
  • According to the measurement system. Depending on the measurement system, the dimensions of the end heads can be specified in millimeters or inches. The end heads intended for the metric measuring system usually have sizes from 4 to 80 mm, and for the inch - from 5/32 to 3-1 / 8 inches.

What to look for when buying end heads

Of course, it is better to buy sets of end heads in shops specializing in the sale of tools. It is advisable to buy the tool from well-known manufacturers (Phillips, Pozi-Drive, Topx, Star, etc.).

Before choosing a set of end heads, you need to carefully inspect their appearance. The end caps must have a dense, even surface covering, which must not peel off.

Tools can be with a matte or polished surface. There is no fundamental difference between the two, but the first few slip in their hands, although they get more dirty during work.

In addition, it should be borne in mind that the end heads are designed for manual twisting and twisting with the help of screwdrivers. The latter are made of high-alloyed hardened steel. Such heads are harder, but at the same time more fragile. Therefore, when choosing a set of heads, it should be provided with which tool they will be used.
