Where is the longest house in the world?

Speaking about the achievements of modern architecture and urban planning, most of us call high-rise buildings as outstanding structures . And what about buildings that can boast a considerable length with a standard number of storeys? Where is the longest house in the world?

Recognized record in Lutsk

Lutsk is an ancient Ukrainian city, which today enjoys a rather high popularity among tourists. In its historical center you can visit the main attraction - the castle. However, not all locals know that it is in their hometown is the longest residential building in the world. The building that fell into the "Guinness Book of Records" has a double address: the Sobornost Avenue and the Youth Street. If you look at the house-record holder from a bird's eye view, it's easy to notice that it resembles honeycombs in its form. The building consists of a number of buildings with a height of 5 and 9 floors. Construction of an impressive residential complex was started in 1969. And only after 11 years the longest house in the world was put into operation and accepted the first happy new settlers. What is remarkable, even today this attraction remains unofficial. A long house is not written in tourist guides. Even many apartment owners do not know that they live in a building that has a record length.

Facts and Myths

The longest house in the world was built by architects Rostislav Metelnitsky and Vasily Malovitsa. Officially the length of the building is 1750 meters, but if you measure the building along with all the branches, you will get a more impressive figure - 2775 meters. There are legends that the first tenants often confused yards and entrances. It became easier to orientate after the improvement of the local area. Bright playgrounds, flower beds and trees allowed residents to learn their native yards. Entrance in the gigantic structure is only 120. During the visit to Lutsk, it is worth to look with your own eyes at the longest house in the world. Photos for memory with this landmark, however, it is unlikely to do. The thing is that the house is so long that it does not fit entirely into the lens of the camera from any point of view. Local residents sometimes even prefer to take a shuttle bus or a bus to visit neighbors in the house from another entrance. In the people this unusual building is called the "Chinese Wall".

Long Houses in Russia

Residential buildings of impressive length are also in Russia. One of the most famous among them is the "gut" house, located in the Spartan district of Volgograd. The total length of the building is 1140 meters. The nine-storey building received its popular name because of its unusual twisted form. If you look at the building from a height, its outlines resemble the letter G. In total, in a gigantic residential complex there are 1200 apartments. As well as the longest house in the world, its Volgograd brother has a double address: Nicholas Otrada Street and Gramsci Street. Long residential buildings are also available in the Russian capital. Often the longest Moscow house is called a residential complex in Otradnoye, whose length is about 1400 meters. However, this is not entirely true, since this structure consists of a number of separate buildings built too close to each other. But in Khoroshevsky district of Moscow, there really is a long house, located at: Gribuzovoy Street, 4.

Features of long houses

Long apartment houses look rather unusual, but it's difficult to call them beautiful by modern standards. What caused the creation and implementation of similar projects? In fact, the answer is quite simple. In the USSR the main demand of the government was: to build quickly and efficiently. At the same time, from the engineering point of view, it is simpler, and sometimes cheaper, to build one building, even if it is not quite ordinary, rather than several separately standing. As for the aesthetics - the typical high-rise buildings at that time were fashionable. It is worth noting that when commissioning they looked much nicer than today, almost half a century later. Today, the city architecture solves very different tasks. Most likely, for a long time the building in Lutsk will retain its honorary title - the longest house in the world. "Guinness book of records" is now actively replenished with the names of high-rise buildings, arguing for the title of the tallest skyscraper.
