Is there a universal ointment for lichens in cats?

The owners of cats are usually scared that their pet is not picked up anywhere by herpes. Although there are many varieties of this disease, cats most often have ringworm - a very unpleasant infectious disease that can be transmitted not only to another animal living in the house, but also to the person. Now, of course, you can buy any ointment from lichen, but to treat this disease is still quite difficult.

Ringworm - what is it?

It is an infectious disease that causes fungi-dermatomycetes. Ringworm is dangerous because it does not appear immediately. From the moment of infection to the appearance of the first signs of the disease can take up to three months. There is a disease in the form of small round spots, on which there is practically no hair. Then they expand, and if you do not start to apply ointment on time, occupy a very large surface.

The first spots can appear on the ears or paws, on the tail, and maybe on the muzzle. The superficial form of the disease passes and is treated more easily, just an ointment from the lichen, which the vet will write out. The most dangerous is the deep form. It is more common in elderly animals and small kittens. There is another form - atypical. With her on the affected areas can remain thin hairs, so it is easy to confuse with the usual abrasion or abrasion.

So the animal should be examined by a qualified veterinarian: ringworm is not easily diagnosed.

Where does ringworm come from?

To infect this unpleasant disease can even a kitten who never went out into the street. We bring with shoes enough microorganisms to the house. If the kitten is weak, then it may well not be able to cope with the attack of mushrooms. But most often, of course, the infection comes from stray animals with close contact, so if the pet walks freely, the probability of the disease is high enough. In this case, you need to take care of the appropriate vaccination against fungal infections and visit the veterinarian more often. After all, it is easier to engage in prevention than to rub the ointment from the lichen every day.

How to recognize ringworm?

As already mentioned, it is easy to get an ointment from cats to get rid of, but recognizing "ring-eye" is much more difficult. Only in vet clinics there are special devices. When the affected areas are illuminated with a Wood lamp (special ultraviolet lamp), they begin to glow with a characteristic emerald green light. But this does not guarantee an accurate result. Absolutely to diagnose it is possible only after laboratory research of soskob from the amazed site. Only then can the doctor prescribe the right treatment.

How to treat ringworm?

Now it is difficult to imagine that once sick with mirosporia (ringworm) animals had to be put to sleep (by law). Today there are such drugs that are quite successfully coping with this disease. For the prevention of animals vaccinated, treated with new generation antibiotics, treated externally sore spots with antifungal ointments, powders, etc. There is a special ointment to deprive the shearing (for example, sulfuric or zinc, "Yam" ointment, "Sanoderm" cream , etc.). The veterinarian will appoint a comprehensive course, after which the animal will become absolutely healthy.

What should the host do?

It is necessary to cut the wool around the affected area. Emerging crusts soften, for example, with a soap solution, and then smudge spots with iodine or zelenka. All the crusts and everything that comes in contact with the sore spot, you need to burn and regularly disinfect the room.

It is desirable that the sick animal be isolated. At least, we must somehow limit the range of its habitat. After all, what the sick animal has to do for many years will remain the source of infection, if not properly processed. And can you be sure that every centimeter is decontaminated? When handling infected surfaces and during procedures on hands, gloves must be worn.
