The drug 'Orvirem'. Instructions for use

The drug "Orvirem" (for children) is available in the form of a suspension. The active ingredient is rimantadine. Medication is often prescribed in pediatrics. The drug "Orvirem" is very effective as a preventive and therapeutic agent during the spread of infection in collectives, in contact with the sick, as well as with a high probability of the disease on the background of the epidemic. The agent has a pronounced activity against influenza A virus and insignificant activity to the influenza B virus.

It should be noted that, more recently, the use of drugs that include rimantadine has been strictly limited to the age range. However, the staff of the Institute of Influenza and other departments of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences developed a new medication on the basis of the polymer form of the active ingredient - the drug "Orvirem".

The composition of the drug includes a low molecular weight modified sodium alginate, which has detoxification and absorbing properties. The active component of the agent is fixed on its matrix. Sodium alginate circulates by blood tens of times longer than rimantadine (active substance). The diffusion rate of the former is substantially reduced. With prolonged (prolonged) circulation, rimantadine (in this dosage form) is released gradually. The active ingredient selectively interacts with the transmembrane protein of the virus, disrupting some of its functions.

All this makes it possible to reduce the dose and, consequently, the likelihood of developing negative consequences, thus ensuring a good tolerance.

Characterizing the drug "Orvire" (syrup), the instruction indicates its ability to influence the cause of the disease, destroying the viruses of the flu. The drug acts quickly and effectively, is well tolerated by patients in childhood. The drug "Orvirem" instruction recommends the use for the treatment and prevention of acute respiratory viral infection and influenza in children aged between one and seven years.

To prevent the development of viral diseases, twenty milligrams are prescribed to children under three years of age, and from three years to thirty milligrams. Take the medicine should be once a day.

For the treatment of the drug "Orvirem" the instruction recommends that children under three years of age be prescribed in the amount of twenty milligrams per session. On the first day they take three times, in the second and third - twice, from the fourth day they switch to a single appointment per day. Children with three years increase only the dosage (up to thirty milligrams). The reception scheme remains unchanged.

Duration of treatment - from ten to fifteen days.

The dose per day of the drug "Orvir" should not be more than five milligrams per kilogram of mass.

The product should be taken after meals, washed down with water.

In clinical practice cases of overdose are not fixed.

To the side manifestations of the drug "Orvirem" the instruction includes rashes, urticaria, skin itching and other reactions of an allergic nature. In addition, taking the drug may provoke neurotic disorders, impaired concentration, anorexia, dizziness, abdominal pain, headaches, vomiting, or nausea.

Medication "Orvirem" instruction does not allow for appointment to patients with diabetes, thyrotoxicosis, with acute or chronic pathologies of the liver and kidneys, children up to a year. The drug is contraindicated during the entire period of gestation and lactation. Do not prescribe means with individual sensitivity.
