Ilyich Ramirez Sanchez: biography

Ilich Ramirez Sanchez (the nickname of the Jackal) is one of the most famous international terrorists. From his hands, many special agents of various secret services, politicians, and ordinary people were killed. Each action caused a heated discussion in the media. Some consider him a romantic personality who fought for the rights of the common people, others - a ruthless terrorist.

During his life the Jackal lived in more than 10 countries. Ilich Ramirez Sanchez was born on October 12, 1949 in Venezuela. His family can be attributed to the intelligentsia. Mother was an orthodox Muslim woman and spent much time studying religion. Father was an ardent Communist. He supported the idea of creating the USSR and admired Vladimir Lenin. In honor of the leader, he named three children.

Father insisted on teaching young Ilyich at the school of Fermin Toro Lucia, who was famous for her leftist convictions. Ilyich showed interest in learning. I was interested in literature, philosophy, economics. Influence of the father and friends prompted Ilyich to join the organization of communist youth. At the age of 15, he takes direct part in clashes with police in the streets of Caracas.
Ilyich's mother was not a supporter of political radicalism. Therefore, the aggravated situation in Venezuela prompted her to emigrate to England with all her children. From there, at the insistence of his father, Ilyich goes to Moscow to study at the university. There he finds many supporters in the circle of students from around the world. Among them was a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.

Activities in PFLP

The PFLP is a radical left organization whose goal was to free the territory of Palestine from Israeli influence and establish secular people's power. In the 1970s, this organization acquired the greatest popularity. Its cells were located around the world. The PFLP worked closely with a number of radical left organizations in Europe. Together with them he arranged joint actions of direct action. Ilich Ramirez Sanchez begins to closely associate Mohammed Boudia. Therefore, in 1970 he left Moscow and sent to the Middle East. There he joins the PFLP and studies in one of the camps. They were created by Palestinian rebels for recruits. In addition to military training to conduct combat operations on the fronts, they were trained to plan and execute operations in urban conditions. Sanchez showed success in training, and he is appointed one of the PFLP's agents in Europe.

In the early 70's, Sanchez returned to London, where he began collecting information. He makes a list, which includes prominent figures of Zionist organizations and supporters of Israel. A few years later, Israeli services kill Boudia, and Sanchez becomes head of the European branch of the PFLP. The first goal was chosen by the head of the company Mark and Spencer. The attempt fails.

The next action was directed against print media that supported Israel's policies on their pages. At night, several mined vehicles explode at the editorial offices, but no one was hurt. After a search at the hotel, journalists manage to shoot the novel "The Day of the Jackal", which Sanchez carried with him. Since that time in the media, he was nicknamed the Jackal.

Cooperation with other groups

In 1974, the Red Army of Japan will attack the French embassy in The Hague. The suddenness of the attack prevented the Dutch authorities from having time to take the necessary measures, practically all the embassy personnel were taken hostage. Negotiations began, which soon reached a dead end. To induce the French to make concessions, Ilyich Ramirez Sanchez blows up a grenade in a Parisian cafe. The next action of the elusive Jackal was assistance in the murder of an Uruguayan diplomat. According to unconfirmed information, the executors were members of one of the radical groups of Latin America.

In 1975, Ilich Ramirez Sanchez was the number one terrorist in Europe. Subversive activities in January took unawares all the French services. On the 17th, PFLP members open fire on an Israeli airplane. The raid was unsuccessful. A few days later there is a similar attack. Ramirez and the three accomplices are successfully hiding. The real hunt begins on them.

After the capture of one of the prominent figures of the PFLP, the Territorial Supervision Office arranges a round-up on one of the leftist radical's apartments. Sanchez is caught, but he manages to get weapons and kills several agents, then escapes.

The last thing and the arrest

One of the loudest actions takes place on December 19. 6 people, including Ramirez, seize the building where the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries Congress was held. Almost 100 people are held hostage. The terrorists are given an airplane, and they fly to Algeria, where they manage to escape again.

After that, Ilyich Ramirez Sanchez conducts several more operations, but he does not take part in them anymore. In 1994, the French services finally manage to capture the Jackal. He was sentenced to 2 lifelong terms, depriving him of the right to parole. Sanchez still sits in Clairvaux prison.
