Recently, more and more car owners began to equip their cars with xenon lamps. By the way, they put such optics not only on the main headlights, but also on the fog lamps. Such a high popularity is understandable. The fact is that this lighting, in comparison with the regular halogen, provides a more powerful beam of light on the road. And the difference is very significant: xenon is 2-3 times more powerful than halogen. However, few of the car owners thought about whether it is legal in Russia. Today we will try to find out whether it is legal to use such lamps on a car, and how they are installed.
The Xenon Law
The rules of the road clearly state that a vehicle equipped with fog lights is allowed to operate on any motorway. That is, there is no prohibition. Even vice versa, a car driving along the road with the included "fog lights" is better than a jeep or a sedan moving in the high beam. But, in order not to have any disputes with the employees of the DPS, it is best to install the optics according to GOST or, at least, the one that has passed the certification. However, the GOST itself does not prohibit the installation of xenon in PTF.
Instruction for the installation of details of optics
So, we have nothing left to do but go to the store and buy xenon lenses. But after buying many people think about how to install them on a car. If you do not want to drive your car into the technical center, you can go another way - install xenon in the PTF yourself. By the way, this process is not so serious as to think about buying or renting special tools. You will only need a minimum set of spanners and a basic knowledge of electronics.
Now let's get to work. First we need to disassemble the old fog lamp. For this, we dismantle the lamp's protective cover and drill a small hole for the wires in the body of the part. You do not need to make excessively large holes. After installing the wires, all the holes must be sealed Rubber gasket. Next, replace the halogen bulb with xenon and take on the connection of the ignition unit. The last element should be present in the headlamp in a mandatory manner, since it is this "trifle" that generates the voltage that is necessary to ignite the headlight. It is not necessary to mount this device in the headlamp unit. It can be installed in any convenient place for you (in the engine compartment). Also, before switching on the lamp, check the condition of the wires on the ignition unit. They should in no case be damaged or clamped between two parts. It is not recommended to place the unit where snow or water can enter. At this stage, xenon in PTF is fully installed. Similarly we do with the second headlight.
As you can see, the installation of xenon with your own hands in the conditions of your own garage is not such a difficult job as it seems at first glance. And as for the legislation, at the moment in Russia it is not forbidden to install xenon in PTF.
