"Mitsubishi Pajero 2": features, reviews, photos

The car "Mitsubishi Pajero 2" has become one of the most famous off-road vehicles of the nineties. For off-road lovers in Russia, this car has become a reliable helper in any difficult situation on rough terrain. The Jeep, of which he can undoubtedly be called, showed great "stubbornness" and a hard temper. Literally at the end of 2015, the fourth generation of the "Pajero" appeared on the Russian market. But if the budget is limited and the choice concerns a second-hand SUV, you can with peace of mind purchase the "Pajero 2". It is necessary to study the technical parts of the car to understand why it deserved much attention and respect from "off-road" fans even in urban conditions.

The history of the model

The second generation of "Pajero" was released in 1991, and sales began in the same year. After six years of successful sales, not only in the homeland of Mitsubishi, in Japan, but also in the US and Europe, the generation passed a deep restyling in 1997, after which it was released for another two years. However, after the production ceased in Japan, marked by the release of the third generation, the Pajero 2 was produced for several years at factories in India and the Philippines.

Body and exterior design

For a whole decade, the SUV was produced in several body styles, namely in a three-door and a five-door. The three-door version, in turn, could be produced in a modification with a soft roof called Canvas Top. The last variation is very difficult to find at the moment in good condition, given the age of the model.

If you look at "Pajero 2", a photo of which can be seen in this article, then it can hardly be said that this model has been more than twenty years old. Plus, the second generation of the SUV does not differ much from the fourth one outwardly and looks quite impressive and brutal. Of course, "Pajero" does not compare with the luxury car "Lincoln Navigator" and with the elite "Nissan Navara". But in any case, the exterior is made in fairly strict proportions, and off-road quality is almost impossible to hide behind a powerful body.

Salon

The owner of any modern jeep can easily surprise with the salon "Pajero 2", as everything looks not quite usual because of the orientation towards off-road driving. On the central panel is a podium with three instruments, namely: a thermometer, a krenometer and an altimeter. Thanks to these devices you can safely go on any off-road. A big plus is the review, which the Japanese realized due to the large area of the glazing, and a high landing, allowing you to control everything around visually from a considerable height.

It is worth mentioning that the comfort in the Salon "Pajero 2" is at the proper level. The front seats have armrests for convenience, and in the five-door versions there is an autonomous stove for heating passengers from behind. In addition, there are versions with a third row of seats, which will transport more passengers. Of course, the convenience of those sitting in the third row is under big question, but the fact remains - capacity at altitude. The boot lid opens horizontally due to a reserve that is secured from the outside, and the volume of the luggage compartment can vary depending on the model and modification.

MMC "Pajero 2": characteristics of the engines

The second generation of "Pajero" received a huge line of power units, both gasoline and diesel. Gasoline power plants can be found in volumes from 2.4 to 3.5 liters with a power of 103 to 280 liters. from. Diesel units have a smaller variety and are represented by a ruler from 2.5 to 2.8 liters with a peak power of 103 to 125 liters. from.

The most successful gasoline engine had a volume of 3.5 liters and helped disperse the "Pajero" to the cherished "hundreds" in less than 10 seconds. The maximum speed in this configuration was 185 km / h, and the average fuel consumption was kept at 14 liters. If we talk about "diesel", then the best performance was a turbo with a volume of 2.5 liters. Of course, the maximum speed and dynamics of acceleration was not so much (150 km / h and 16.5 seconds, respectively), but the fuel consumption rate (11 liters per 100 km) and high torque made their business off-road.

Transmission

The second generation of "Pajero" was marked by the release of the company's all-wheel drive system, called Super Select 4WD. The main feature was the possibility of constant driving in the all-wheel drive mode. It was also possible to move only in the rear-drive mode. Features of the "distribution" was the possibility of blocking the inter-axle differential in 4WD mode and connecting a reduced gear. At that time, the Super Select system was innovative and that's why it was installed only in expensive versions of the SUV. Cheap versions received a simple Part Time 4WD system, which did not have a differential lock mode. That's why constant driving in 4x4 mode was harmful to the car.

The most expensive and top-end equipment was also fitted with an automatic transmission, which, in turn, had several modes for simplifying driving in different conditions. Normal mode allowed you to move on flat roads with a good hook and dry cloth. In Power mode, the "machine" started to accelerate and change gears a little faster. In the most useful mode Hold car without any interference could overcome the complex snow and ice areas due to a smooth gear change and the ability to start from the second gear.

Chassis

"Mitsubishi Pajero 2" got quite an interesting suspension system: the springs were used from behind, and the suspension was dependent, in the front an independent torsion suspension was used. This option has made it possible to achieve great smoothness when driving off-road, and it is worth noting that the system has justified itself. Rapid stopping of the multi-tonne machine is caused by large enough and strong disc brakes, and safety is enhanced by airbags, ABS and a powerful body being impenetrable.

In the end, I would like to add that if you need a comfortable car with increased cross-country capacity and optimal capacity, then undoubtedly the best option is "Pajero 2". Reviews about this machine can only be found positive. There are "knocked down" and almost not rotting body, very strong suspension and comfortable interior - all that is necessary for comfortable movement under any conditions of rough terrain and even in the city.
