On how to test the lambda probe

If you are interested in the question of how to check the lambda probe, then you have come to the right place. To perform this test, you will need the following items: an instruction manual for the car manufacturer (you also need to find out where it is), an oscilloscope, and, finally, a voltmeter. When you collect all this, then proceed to warm up the car engine to operating temperature.

We get acquainted with the instruction, namely with what basic indicators your lambda probe has. The test covers the following parameters, which respond to an incorrect operation of the oxygen sensor. This voltage in the electrical network, here also includes the ignition advance, as well as the operation of the system responsible for supplying fuel. You should also pay attention to the external surfaces of various mechanisms, namely, to exclude the presence of any mechanical damage to them, their body or in the wiring.

Next, look into the engine compartment, where we find our llama probe. It must be examined from top to bottom and pay attention to the degree of its contamination. A layer of soot, lead or a gray-white coating on the tip tells the master that it needs to be replaced. This indicates the use of poor-quality fuel. If there is no contamination, proceed to the next point.

If you are still interested in how to check the lambda probe, disconnect it from the pad and immediately connect it with a voltmeter. We start the engine and raise the revolutions to the rate of two and a half thousand revolutions per minute. Now, with the help of the enrichment device, lower the engine speed to a mark of two thousand rpm.

If your machine is equipped with a fuel system that is electronically controlled, then you need to pull the vacuum tube out of your fuel pressure regulator. Now look at the voltmeter readings. If it shows a value close to 0.9 Volts, then the sensor is in perfect order. If it does not show anything or the value is less than 0.8 Volts - this indicates a malfunction. But the question of how to test the lambda probe is not yet fully revealed.

The next step will be a test for the poverty of the mixture. We take the vacuum tube and provoke air sucking. With a good oxygen sensor, the voltmeter reading should be 0.2 Volts or lower.

Now we have to check the performance of the lambda probe in dynamics. To do this, you must connect it to the fuel feed connector. After you do this, connect a voltmeter in parallel with it. Then increase the engine speed to a mark of fifteen hundred revolutions per minute. The voltmeter should at this point be exactly 0.5 volts. If it is not, the sensor is defective.

Here, in principle, and all the wisdom of how to test the lambda probe. No special knowledge is required, and everything can be done at home, without any problems. Check periodically this detail, because the quality of fuel at our gas stations does not meet the standards, and this contributes to the rapid depletion of the resource of the lambda probe and not only. Once you find that it has become unusable - immediately make a replacement. Good luck on the road and fewer failures.
