How practical is polypropylene? Fittings and pipes made of polypropylene

Polypropylene in modern conditions is gaining popularity. It has all the necessary quality requirements, easy to install and is characterized by a relatively low cost.

Therefore, more often water supply systems, as well as heating, are collected using this material. Polypropylene, the fittings of which are connected by soldering, makes it possible to create a monolithic structure. It is no different at the joints from the integral pipe.

However, polypropylene fittings must be properly selected for heating, sewerage, and water supply.

General concept of fittings

Any system on which water is transported consists of pipes and their connections. These are fittings. Polypropylene in this case is considered a good choice.

In English, the word "fitting" means "mount", "connect". They are used for folding straight pipes, making turns, forking. With their help, transitions are carried out from one pipe diameter to another.

Fittings and pipes for water supply from a material such as polypropylene can be welded. This happens very quickly when using a soldering iron with attachments. In this case, the joints will not proceed with a high probability.

This property is one of the most important advantages. Today, such fittings are in demand. Polypropylene is used universally.

Dimensions

Manufacturers produce a wide variety of sizes of fittings. This makes it easy to find the required variety. There are connections with and without thread. They are chosen taking into account the operating conditions.

If it is a threaded fitting, it can be detachable and integral. This must be taken into account when choosing the right size.

Polypropylene, the fittings of which are often used in different systems, makes it possible to produce a large number of different elements from it.

The most commonly used dimensions are parts with a cross-section of 20, 25, 32, 40 mm. To equip the water supply system in multi-storey buildings, even a size of 110 mm is used.

The diameter is calculated taking into account the length of the entire system. The larger it is, the wider the pipes and fittings should be installed.

Range

The purpose of the elements of the system is different. Have all kinds of configuration fittings (polypropylene).

Sewage, ventilation, heating or water supply apply them to the fullest. Pipes from this material do not bend, so you will have to use the connections in any case. Exist:

  • Couplings;
  • Transitions;
  • Fitting;
  • Crossings;
  • Plugs;
  • Corners.

The coupling will allow to connect pipes of the same diameter, and the transition - of different cross-section. The connection is required in case of need to connect the communication with the flexible hose. Crossings are used for branching. The plug will seal the dead-end pipe.

Accordingly, the turn can be done with the help of a corner. Most often they are 45 and 90 degrees.

Marking

In order not to have to replace pipes in a short time, it is necessary to select them correctly. For this, it is necessary to pay attention to the marking.

Pipes and fittings made of polypropylene for water supply are not suitable for heating. Marking is applied to all parts.

PN10 belongs to thin-walled parts for cold water supply up to +20 degrees. The operating pressure is 1 MPa.

PN16 are designed for cold water supply with increased pressure.

PN20 indicates that the material withstands heating to +80 degrees, and pressure - up to 2 MPa.

For hot water supply and heating, elements marked PN25 must be used. They are able to hold the heat to +95 degrees. At the same time, the permissible pressure in the system can reach 2.5 MPa.

If you let a liquid with a higher temperature pass through the pipes for cold water, they will begin to deform. Therefore, although the cost of different classes of pipes is very different, you should only purchase fittings and pipes suitable for the system parameters.

Advantages

Polypropylene fittings for heating, water supply have a number of advantages.

  1. The light weight facilitates the work process.
  2. Long service life. In heating systems, polypropylene will last about 25 years, and in cold water pipelines - 50 years.
  3. Relatively low cost.
  4. Quick installation.
  5. Aesthetic appearance.

All these qualities make the material so in demand. His popularity is increasing almost every day. Fittings are resistant to corrosion and chemical attack. They do not deposit lime deposits, microorganisms do not multiply.

disadvantages

Fittings made of polypropylene for water supply and other systems have a number of negative qualities. They include a lot of rigidity. They can not be bent. Therefore, during installation, a fairly large number of connections are required.

The disadvantages also include the need to use special equipment. It will have to be bought for assembly.

Polypropylene is also too sensitive to temperature increase. Because of this, it can expand in diameter and elongate linearly. For this material, the temperature regime is important.

However, these shortcomings pale in front of all merits. The soldering device is not very expensive, if you need to solder the pipes at home. Professionals will quickly pay off the cost of expensive equipment for frequent use.

Installation

Polypropylene, the fittings of which are used in the arrangement of various systems, involves the use of a certain assembly technology.

To do this, you will need to purchase a special soldering iron with nozzles of the required diameter. It is necessary to cut the pipes with special scissors. Also, in advance prepare a face, roulette, marker.

For assembly in an electric soldering iron, the temperature is set to 240-260 degrees. Using a pipe cutter, the middle layer of foil is removed from the pipe by 2 mm.

On one side of the nozzle, a pipe is put on the soldering iron, and on the other - a fitting. The heating time is 3-5 sec. They are simultaneously removed and the connection of the pipe with the fitting is made. Allow the elements to cool and check the joint. This is a quick and fairly simple installation, available even for beginners.

Having familiarized with such material as polypropylene, fittings from which are very much in demand today, you can independently assemble different types of systems. Correctly picking up all the elements and assembling them properly, you can count on a long period of operation of the system. Being one of the most frequently used materials, polypropylene has many positive qualities. Simplicity of installation, durability and low cost increase the demand for fittings from it.
