Historical Nikolo-Arkhangelsk Cemetery

Human life inevitably ends. Once again, to state this obvious fact is somehow not accepted. However, any settlement has a nearby cemetery, and the big city is surrounded by them from all sides. Cemeteries are an integral part of the urban infrastructure. Let's take a closer look at one of them. By the level of maintenance and improvement of cemeteries, one can say a lot about both administrative management and the culture of society. These things are always interconnected directly.

Behind the eastern outskirts of Moscow

Nikolo-Arkhangelskoe cemetery is reasonably considered to be one of the largest in Moscow. Its territory is located in the Moscow region, in the Balashikha district. Not far from it, the Moscow district of Novokosino is located behind the Ring Road. The Nikolo-Arkhangelsk cemetery was founded in 1960 according to the decision of the Moscow City Council. Its name it received in honor of the historic village, near which the territory was allocated for it. Today it occupies an area of 196 hectares, and there is almost no free space on it. New territories under the cemeteries are allocated by the Moscow authorities at a much greater distance from the capital. In the administrative sense, the Nikolo-Arkhangelsk cemetery is a structural subdivision of the State Unitary Enterprise "Ritual", which manages most of the Moscow cemeteries.

Crematorium

Today, the ritual of cremation is quite common. However, in former times he often met with rejection as contradictory to the national funerary traditions. Nikolo-Arkhangelskoe cemetery was one of the first in Moscow, where the crematorium was opened. It took place in the distant 1973, the complex was built on an individual project. At that time it was not only one of the first, but also the largest in Europe. Today, the crematorium of the Nikolo-Arkhangelsk cemetery carries up to forty cremations daily. The fire burial has long been habitual, and it does not cause any special objections. Mostly, the ritual of cremation became attractive for financial reasons. The cost of the ceremony is in the standard tariff - 3600 rubles. Burial of the urn with ashes in the niche of columbarium is also very affordable and excludes the need to erect an expensive memorial tombstone on the grave.

Operating mode

Currently, the resource of the cemetery territory is almost exhausted. Therefore, only related graves are produced here, as well as the placement of urns with ashes in the columbarium wall or in a related grave. The Nikolo-Arkhangelsk cemetery, whose opening hours depend on the season of the year, is open to visitors. From May to September, access to its territory is open from 9 to 19 hours daily, and from October to April from 9 to 17 hours. Funeral rituals are performed from 10 to 17 daily.

Location on the ground

The cemetery consists of two parts: central and eastern. The territory of it was formed in stages, and therefore the scheme of the Nikolo-Arkhangelsk cemetery is rather complicated and not always logical. A total of 172 sections are marked on it, some of the numbers are repeated twice, and some are missing altogether. For possible clarifications, it is best to contact the administration. Service and other structures are located at the central portal. The eastern part of the cemetery has a separate entrance. It should be noted that the entire territory of the cemetery is well-equipped and corresponds to the generally accepted standards of gardening. There is a necessary information infrastructure in the form of marking of sections and direction signs along alleys. A detailed scheme of the cemetery can be seen from each of the two entrances to its territory.

Temples and notable places

On the territory of the Nikolo-Arkhangelsk cemetery there are two Orthodox churches - the Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary at the north-western entrance and the chapel of the Martyr Uar at the central entrance. Martyr Oar is an Orthodox saint who has grace to turn to God with a prayer for those who have died outside of Holy Baptism. On the graveyard of the Nikolo-Arkhangelsk cemetery, many important figures of Russian science, culture, art, cinema and public service have found the last shelter. Here are buried 40 Heroes of Russia and Heroes of the Soviet Union. In the cemetery are the graves of the sailors of the Kursk submarine and the special forces who died in the release of hostages from a school seized by terrorists in the North Ossetian town of Beslan. Here are the graves of those who died in the attack of terrorists on the building of the theater center on Dubrovka Street in Moscow. These memorable many events entered the newest Russian history under the name "Nord-Ost".

Nikolo-Arkhangelskoe Cemetery: how to reach

Transport communication of the cemetery with the capital is provided, mainly, by shuttle buses departing from several metro stations. From the "Vykhino" to the Nikolo-Arkhangelsk cemetery there is a bus 706 of the route, from the "Schelkovskaya" - bus number 760. You can take the transport going along these routes and stop at the metro station "Novokosino". From the same metro stations to the cemetery can be reached by shuttle bus.
