What is this beast - a sacred Burmese cat?

There are different breeds of cats with blue eyes, but "Sacred Burma" is special. Neither Angora nor Siamese cats have such an immaculately golden coat, snow-white socks and, most importantly, such a beautiful legend about the origin. So, in ancient times in Burma was a monastery, the monks of which worshiped the golden statue of the goddess with sapphire eyes. The abbot of the monastery had a cat named Singh, nothing particularly noteworthy. And then the monastery was attacked by robbers in order to steal the precious sculpture of the goddess. They killed the abbot at the foot of the statue. Then Singh jumped on his master's chest and turned his gaze to the goddess. And immediately a miracle happened: the cat's fur became golden like a statue, her eyes were sapphire, and the pads of the legs, with which the animal touched the body of its deceased host, were painted in the color of sacred purity, became white. Discouraged by this transformation of the animal, the robbers retreated, and the statue was saved.

Despite its ancient origins, the sacred Burmese cat was absolutely unknown in the West, until in 1898 Major Gordon Russell arrived in Burma. He became friends with the monks of one monastery and, by the will of fate, saved them from the armed invasion of the robbers. As a token of gratitude to Gordon Russell and his companion Augustus Pavia, the abbot presented a pair of Burmese cats. But these animals could not stand a long journey and died. Then in 1925 the dean sent another pair to France. They were the cat Orloff and the kitten Xenia de Kaabaa, who became the progenitors of all European Burmese.

What is the difference between a Burmese cat and other breeds? First of all, this is the presence on the animal's legs of snow-white "socks". In the ideal carrier of the rock, they must be strictly symmetrical on all four legs, but also pair symmetry is allowed: on the front legs - to the phalangeal joints, and on the hind legs there may be "hocks" to the hock joint. The eyes should be large and round, deep blue, and the paw pads pink. The coat color of Burma can range from golden, cream to red and chocolate, and blue and purple suits of Burma are also allowed. But colorpoint is an obligatory kind of color.

A characteristic feature of the breed - snow-white "socks" - is a recessive gene. It is worth to some representative of another breed - even a close Siamese or Persian with a white patchiness - to crochet into the family to Burma, "socks" will immediately disappear from all the litter of kittens. Even pairing two magnificent breed carriers does not guarantee the appearance of ideal "socks" in the offspring. Another feature that the Burmese cat possesses is its ability to keep the tail: even and with a slope, like the tusk of a unicorn.

A soft beige (golden) coat is also very rare. But do not be afraid to take kittens with a different coat color. A dark-golden low tide on the back of a Burmese cat can get at the age of one or two years. The main thing is to monitor the presence and purity of the blue (lilac) marks. The wool of a small animal should be poludlinnoy, soft and silky. The tummy should be lighter than the back.

Burmese cat requires daily care. It is not necessary to feed the pet with dry food, because the dyes contained in them have a detrimental effect on the color of the skin. The nature of these animals can be characterized as an average between passive and active. You should not start a cat of this breed as a toy for a child: it scratches and bites, but with adults it is very affectionate and playful. Despite the "holiness" of this breed, its representatives, and especially the representatives, are very loving: they can yell for a few days, demanding a gentleman, and these periods occur more often than in representatives of other breeds. But they are good mothers. "Sacred Burma" is very afraid of drafts and likes to sleep under the blanket.
