Growing parsley - tips

Parsley is divided into root and leaf. Both species are very popular with the only difference that the root is used in pickles and vegetable soups, and leafy is mainly added to salads, fish and meat dishes as a seasoning. Leafy greens, in turn, are curly and ordinary. The most popular among gardeners is curly - because of its beautiful appearance and a large amount of green mass. Cultivation of parsley is possible both at home and in private plots. Thanks to the content of vitamin C, essential oils and carotene in it, it has a beneficial effect on the body and improves appetite.

Time for sowing

This kind of greenery refers to spicy plants, so the seeds are fairly small and last about 20 days. More rapid germination of seeds prevents the essential oil, which, in turn, keeps the possibility of their emergence during the year. Greenery is a biennial plant, therefore, parsley grows for two years: the first year leaves for the formation of roots and rosettes of leaves, and on the second - the stems with flowers develop. This plant is well resistant to low temperature conditions, so it can easily tolerate freezing up to -9 degrees C. Growing parsley in the winter season also does not cause any trouble. Even with snow cover, the plant will easily carry winter, and with the advent of spring it will quickly release new leaves that germinate already at 3 degrees above zero. An important point is that the greens are very demanding on the soil moisture and enough light, as when the soil is overwhelmed the root illness starts.

Germination and sowing

Growing parsley in the open ground gives an excellent result on clean, fertile and loose soils. Dense clay causes a change in the shape of the plant and a decrease in yield. Abundant growth of greenery is provided by organic fertilizers, for example, humus, manure or compost, which need to be added during the digging of the site, about 5 kilograms per square meter. The timing of sowing also greatly affects the yield. Due to the fact that seeds give sprouts very slowly and need high humidity of the earth, then it is better to sow them earlier, in the very beginning of May or even in April. If you are late with the crop, the seeds will fall into arid soil and give weak and sprouting, and many of them will not ascend. Here is a capricious greenery - parsley.

Growing from seeds and planting them can be done in spring and autumn. In the autumn planting it is better to choose such areas of the soil on which there is no dense crust and there will be no danger of flushing the plants with melt water. Despite the risk, the autumn sowing, produced before the immediate onset of cold weather, will give an early harvest. Seeds are planted in rows, with a distance between them about 20 centimeters, and in a row about 4 centimeters. For faster germination, it is possible to soak seeds in water before sowing for several weeks. After the appearance of sprouts, they are placed in the soil to a depth of about 3 centimeters.

Seed care

Proper cultivation of parsley also depends on timely weeding. If you do not perform this procedure, the plants will stretch out a lot, and when weeds are removed they will fall to the ground. Steaming and loosening the soil should be several times during the summer. It is necessary during the weeding process to produce and thin out too thick shoots, and torn stems are usually used for food.
