Planting carrots

Carrots love places that are sufficiently illuminated by the sun. It grows well on sandy and loamy soils.

Planting of carrots in spring should be made in high ridges with well-fortified, to prevent spillage, edges. The best predecessors for this culture are potatoes, tomatoes, cabbage.

Planting carrots in the optimal time for the given latitude, for example, for the middle zone of Russia, this is the end of April - the beginning of May. This is the key to a high harvest and good storage.

Early varieties should be sown in the twentieth of April.

In the southern regions, the beginning of sowing this culture falls on March.

Preparation of the soil should begin in the fall with a deep digging with the simultaneous introduction of sawdust or peat. Unsupported manure is contraindicated for carrots.

For long-term winter storage, carrots planted in mid-June are most suitable. With this method, it is necessary to use mulching with compost or humus, since the moisture content in the soil in the summer is still often low.

Also, planting carrots is possible and under winter. In this case, the earliest harvest will be obtained. Seed sowing must be completed before the first frost. Grades for this method will be suitable only for winter.

Before the planting of carrots, it is necessary to feed the soil through the introduction of potash and phosphorus mineral fertilizers, as well as humus, after which it is carefully harrowed. Seeds for winter and early spring are put dry in the ground, but those that are intended for sowing in the middle of spring (or summer), in order that sprouts appear as early as possible, it is necessary to soak in water, having room temperature. After that, keep in the fridge for five days, dry it, and then sow.

For soaking it is also possible to use solutions of micro- and macro-elements, and to combat pathogens that can be contained in seeds, they need to be held in water for about five minutes, the temperature of which is about 53 degrees Celsius, then immerse them for three minutes in more Cold water, and then dry it.

Planting carrots is possible with the help of a paper tape, on which its seeds are pasted. The main advantage of this method is that after seedlings it is not necessary to perform seed thinning. These tapes can be purchased at the store, and you can make them yourself. To do this, take as thin a paper as possible and cover it with starch paste (for its preparation take half a glass of cold water, dilute a teaspoon of any starch in it, mix well, put on slow fire and gently stirring, heat until boiling, not boiling) .

The paste should be applied to the paper with a match, with a wool wrapped around the tip, every 2 to 3 centimeters. For each speck of glue you need to put on a seed. The strips are dried and stored at room temperature and normal humidity. Paper should be as thin as possible in order to quickly creep away in the ground. Prepared by own hands or purchased in the store tape should be stretched along the ridge and sprinkled with earth. It should be prepared for the fact that sprouts from this type of planting will have to wait a long time.

There is one more way of sowing seeds in granules from macro- and microelements. Thanks to them, the sprout will have access to all the necessary food for him immediately, which in the future will allow to grow a healthier and more beautiful carrot.

Cultivation of this culture is hampered only by the need to thin the shoots in rows and slow growth at the first stages, which allows the weeds to quickly catch up with it in size, and therefore worsen the conditions for the first weeding.

The distance in a row between the seeds should be from 3 to 5 centimeters, and between rows - 20 centimeters.
