Gastroscopy under anesthesia. Indications for conduction

Problems with digestion bother most people around the globe. In carrying out studies for diagnostic purposes, inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract is detected very often. In this regard, modern medicine is equipped with a variety of technologies that allow you to quickly and accurately detect pathological changes. There is a sufficient number of instrumental studies that are used to assess the state of the gastrointestinal tract. They include fractional sounding, pH-metry, X-ray contrast methods, biopsy and even laparoscopy. The gold standard for today is - FEGDS (fibroesophagogastroduodenoscopy).

Advantages of FEGDS

Fibroesophagogastroduodenoscopy, or simply gastroscopy, is used to identify pathologies of the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum. With the help of this method, it is possible to evaluate the changes occurring in the wall of the digestive tract. FEGDS allows us to identify the stage of the inflammatory process, as well as to take a targeted biopsy from suspicious foci. Due to this, it is possible to diagnose background and precancerous states in the early stages, thereby preventing tumor changes in the digestive tract. When mentioning the PHAGS, most patients begin to worry, since this method is associated with swallowing the hose and unpleasant sensations in doing so. At the present time gastroscopy under anesthesia has become available, in which one can avoid discomfort from this procedure.

Indications for gastroscopy

FEGDS is used as a diagnosis of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, in order to control the treatment of ulcerative defects, as well as for minimally invasive manipulation. In addition, gastroscopy with targeted biopsy refers to screening methods intended for the diagnosis of malignant processes. Diseases that can be seen during the FEGDS:

  1. Acute and chronic esophagitis.
  2. Gastritis.
  3. Duodenitis.
  4. Stenoses of organs, which can be both congenital and acquired after trauma and burns.
  5. Hernias of the esophageal opening of the diaphragm.
  6. Ulcers of the stomach and duodenum.
  7. Polyps.
  8. Diverticulum of the esophagus.

When conducting drug treatment of peptic ulcer, PHEGDS allows to evaluate the stage of the process (high-temperature, healing). Gastroscopy under anesthesia is a more gentle method, since the patient does not experience unpleasant sensations during its carrying out. Nevertheless, it has the same indications and high efficiency. Gastroscopy for children under general anesthesia is performed for the same indications as for adults.

Colonoscopy: the purpose of using the method

The method of examination of the colon with the help of endoscopic technique is called a colonoscopy. This procedure is used in medicine for a long time, as it is highly informative and allows for targeted biopsy. Colonoscopy helps to identify background and precancerous conditions, assess patency, structure, and the presence of pathological formations throughout the large intestine. Some patients refuse this method, because it is painful and unpleasant in the psychological aspect. Nevertheless, the study is necessary in the diagnosis of many diseases. Currently, gastroscopy and colonoscopy under anesthesia are available. Therefore, the fear of these procedures is gradually becoming a thing of the past.

Gastroscopy under anesthesia: technique of conducting

Before starting the procedure, it is necessary to prepare the patient, as well as to obtain his consent. First, the patient needs to tell about the purpose and benefits of this method of diagnosis, then - on the technique of conducting. If gastroscopy is prescribed under general anesthesia, it is necessary to inform the patient in advance that the procedure is performed on an empty stomach, that is, he should not eat about 10-12 hours before it. As far as smoking is concerned, it is contraindicated before PHAGS for 2-3 hours. Before the introduction of the endoscopic probe, the area of the root of the tongue and pharynx is treated with a solution of lidocaine, in order to reduce the vomiting, this is a local anesthetic and is performed for all patients. Some patients, at their request or special indications, make general anesthesia, i.e. intravenously, or sedatives ("Diprivan", "Propofol"), in order to achieve a shallow medication sleep.

Indications for the introduction of general anesthesia

Anyone can make gastroscopy under anesthesia. Nevertheless, there are special indications in which anesthesia is simply necessary. These include:

  1. Increased gag reflex - when the patient can not contain the contents of the digestive tract.
  2. Excessive psychological excitability, which took place during the previous FEGDS.
  3. If any manipulations are planned during the gastroscopy, it can be the removal of polyps, a small diverticulum. Normally, the procedure takes about 10-15 minutes. At therapeutic manipulations this time increases.

Gastroscopy under anesthesia: patient feedback

The opinion of patients on the conduct of FEGDS in a dream is positive, since they do not feel unpleasant sensations from the procedure, nor do they observe the pathological changes in their organs visually, which is important for some of them. With regard to reviews of colonoscopy under anesthesia, this method is most acceptable for all patients. This is not only related to the fear and pain of the procedure, but also relieves patients from a feeling of restraint before the medical staff.
