English ivy. How does the plant grow and grow?

This plant is evergreen, curly, belongs to the Araliev family. English ivy (or ivy ordinary), thanks to its petals, is able to cling to almost any object, thereby growing to a great height - up to twenty meters or more. If there are no tall structures or trees, it can spread along the ground.

English ivy has leaflets that look like hearts. Flowers have a greenish-yellow color, they can be observed in September-October. The fruits of the plant are poisonous to humans, but they are a rich food for birds, which also spread ivy seeds contained in their litter.

English Ivy: Reproduction

This plant is propagated by cuttings, shoots or layers. With the help of the cuttings, ivy is cultivated as follows: cut the cuttings and plant them in small pots two or three units each, then cover with a film. Ideal soil for such a seedling is sand mixed with hardwood. If the cuttings have aerial roots, then they have a much greater chance of survival.

The ivy is grown in shoots as follows. Cut off the shoot, which has about ten leaves, and put it on the sand. Now gently press it so that only the leaves remain on the surface. After a week or ten days on the stalk in the place where the air roots are located, underground roots will appear (the sand is constantly moistened). Now we pull out the shoot and cut it so that leaves and roots remain on each separate cuttings. Then the stalk can be placed in the water so that it is thoroughly rooted, and then it is necessary to put it in the pot.

Wastes of English and ivy are grown as easily. To do this, take long shoots and pinch them to the ground with the help of staples. After a while, if the land is constantly moisturized, and the shoot is sprayed, the roots should appear. It remains only to transplant the plant into a pot, but it needs to be done very carefully, since it does not feel well in this period and can easily break off.

English Ivy: Cultivation

The plant is not so whimsical. Excellent English ivy (photo on the right) develops and at home, for which I received the nickname of ivy home. However, the soil must be constantly wet, in summer it is watered abundantly, and in winter - moderately. Adoption of any type is very useful for this plant. To give splendor and decorativeness it is recommended to pinch the ends of its shoots.

The transplant is carried out only once every two years. To do this, it is always necessary to take a pot larger than the diameter of the previous one. Ivy ordinary is very fond of the sun's rays, so it should be grown in the appropriate place.

Occasionally, this plant can still hurt. If the room is constantly warm, English ivy can be damaged by a scabbard. Trim the affected leaves and put the plant in a cooler place. With a lack of moisture, you will notice that the ivy leaves turn yellow and fall off - do not forget to water the plant.
