Engineer-ecologist: the guardian of the future

The environmental engineer is a relatively new, but very popular, specialty today. First it appeared in the West. From the profession of "engineer-builder" first isolated activity of the engineer in sanitation, and then from her a specialty, named "engineer-ecologist". You can get the education of an environmental engineer in different universities. Some prepare professionals for joint programs (sanitation-ecology), others prefer a narrow specialization. Where are people with such a specific education in demand? At industrial enterprises, whose activities are associated with the use of natural resources, where bio- or chemical technologies are actively developing. Unfortunately, despite the fact that, according to statistics, the environmental costs of production are growing every year, not all managers are ready to hire environmental engineers. However, labor market researchers have calculated that today the profitability of business largely depends on proper environmental support, so the profession is becoming more and more popular and promising. So what do environmental engineers do, what is their job?

Environmental Engineer: Activities

The sphere of interests of all representatives of this profession is divided into four groups: water, air, land, management. The latter direction is connected with the improvement of monitoring and the development of new legislation in the field of ecology. Of course, every enterprise has its own job description of an environmental engineer. However, there are general directions of their activities, for which the main training is carried out in universities. The main task of such specialists is to ensure the activity of the enterprise without damage to the environment. Usually the duties include:

  • Control over the implementation of legislation in matters relating to the environmental situation;
  • Planning of environmental protection, development of methodologies and monitoring of their implementation;
  • Risk assessment;
  • Participation in the development of relevant documentation;
  • Drawing up of the reporting on ecological activity of the organization.

Environmental Engineer: salary offers

It is clear that in different enterprises and in different industrial areas the salaries of specialists are very different. For example, an environmental engineer working in the oil and gas or metallurgical industry, for example, a Gazprom specialist gets times more than employees of other organizations. On average, high school graduates who are good at computer skills, who know perfectly well all the norms and standards of environmental legislation, can expect about such salaries:

  • In Moscow - from 30 000 rubles;
  • In Rostov-on-Don - from 13,000 rubles;
  • In Chelyabinsk and other remote districts - from 14,000.

Naturally, these are only approximate figures. Final payments depend on regions, features of enterprises, their success and competitiveness. And salaries of specialists are increasing constantly, since without this profession the future may not come. Today only careful compliance with all environmental standards can save the environment.
