Embroidery with ribbons - schemes, materials, technology

Rococo, Baroque and Byzantine style - they are united by embroidery with ribbons, the schemes of which are born on a simple pencil drawing.

Basics of the hobby of Louis XIV

Embroidery ribbons - an art designed to glorify the beauty of the surrounding world and exalt it with a needle and cloth. Therefore it is not surprising that it reached its heyday in France, in the reign of the admirer of luxury Louis XIV. It is for him that modern embroiderers owe the presence of most of the motifs, as well as the basics of elegant reproduction techniques in ribbons of floral designs, where the main role is played by schemes, materials and basic stitches, also called technique.

Schemes embroidery ribbons are diverse and can be both copied from the special literature, and created independently. Despite the fact that the needlewoman prefers for herself, in any case, the picture, unlike other kinds of art, will turn out to be absolutely individual. Such a result is provided by the materials that the embroiderer uses, and how and how she mastered the technique of painting ribbons on fabric.

Materials for embroidery in this case are divided into three groups, namely: tapes, basic and auxiliary tools. Experienced needlewomen prefer to work with silk ribbons, whose home is, of course, China. But inexperienced embroiderers are best to start with satin or semisynthetic threads. This choice is explained by the fact that the latter fit perfectly and are less "capricious" in their work. In addition to the qualitative characteristics, it should also be noted that, depending on the scheme and the motive depicted on it, the width of the filament is also varied, varying from 0.3 to 1.2 cm.

Embroidery with ribbons, whose schemes involve a clear adherence to a given motive, involves a uniform weave fabric and needles of different thickness and length. In addition to them, the needlewoman will also need a small pair of scissors (like manicure), thread (preferably it's a moulin), embroidery frame, paint for base and ribbons.

In the process of work, the needlewoman herself determines her minimum of materials and tools, but the list presented above is the basis for those who are familiar with this type of embroidery.

Embroidery with ribbons is a technique of creation

In order to master the basics of this type of needlework, it is enough to remember the basic techniques, including the fastening of the tape in the needle and the base stitches.

The quality of any embroidery depends on how well the initial fastening of the material is performed. For a successful start, a small piece of tape is passed through the eyelet. Then the needle is carried through the material at the very beginning, the tape is pulled together. Then the opposite end is folded in two turns. Through the resulting pocket again, the needle is held with the thread reinforced in it.

Embroidery with ribbons, the schemes of which differ in the variety of designs, also requires the needlework maker to perform basic stitching skills. The first of them is direct. For him, it should be taken from the wrong side to the front needle with the tape and, following the pattern, again return the needle to the wrong side at the specified point. At the same time, make sure that the tape falls flat on the fabric. In contrast, the Japanese stitch requires that at the point of exit to the wrong side the needle passes through the tape.

The third main stitch looks a little different - a loop with an attachment. For him, too, the ribbon is removed from the wrong side and comes back next to the exit. Thus it is necessary to hold it so that the necessary on the size a loop is formed, in the top point of which the needle is again deduced on the front side and, surrounding an already existing arc, again leaves on the wrong side.

These three techniques are the basis for an elegant kind of needlework called "ribbon embroidery." Schemes selected by the needlewoman may require other stitches, which is explained by the complexity of this or that design.
