Or the situation when a completely defined, already imagined theatrical mask is being asked on the wall . But, unfortunately, industry does not keep up with the flight of your imagination. In these and in many other cases, the ancient technique of papier mâché, originated in the beginning of the 16th century in France, originally used in the making of dolls, can help. In Russia, it fell under the rule of Peter the Great, who at the state level supported the crafts. At that time, even furniture was made of papier mache: chairs, beds, cabinets and much more.

In translation from the French papier mâché - chewed or torn paper. There are three basic techniques for making molds:

  1. Layered pasting with pieces of wet paper of a pre-selected shape. In the classical version, from several to 100 layers, to achieve the desired thickness and strength of the article. Starch paste was used as glue.
  2. The work is carried out using prepared pulp. Torn in small pieces of paper soaked with hot water for a day, then boiled, squeezed water, dried and chopped. The resulting mixture is mixed with chalk until uniform. Then, with constant stirring, a glue mixture of starch paste and joinery glue is introduced . The mass is poured into molds or applied uniformly over the preform and left to dry completely. Depending on the thickness of the layer - from 1 to 5 days at room temperature.
  3. Flat products are glued under pressure from cardboard plates.

The rest of the techniques used by the masters today are derived from the three listed above.

The billet obtained by any of the described methods is shpatlyuyut, then grinded with fine sandpaper or neatly cut irregularities with a sharp knife. After this, necessarily primed with two layers of ordinary emulsion, giving each a good dry out. And decorate.
