Dysmorphobia - Dangerous Disorder

It is difficult to find such a person who would be completely satisfied with his appearance. Psychologists note that even people with an ideal appearance, manage to find shortcomings and flaws in their body. Dissatisfaction with their appearance forces people to make certain efforts to correct deficiencies (existing or imaginary). This can be diet, exercise in the gym and even plastic surgery (for example, some resort to breast augmentation surgery or nose plasty).
Increased attention to their appearance is dictated by the requirement of the time: today, youth and beauty become a kind of a pass to the world of successful people. The importance of appearance is constantly emphasized by advertising and glossy
Editions that set standards of beauty. But not all of these standards can correspond, which increases the number of people who are dissatisfied with their appearance.

Sometimes this discontent acquires painful forms. A certain defect or flaw (very often contrived) becomes the cause of spiritual strife, a source of development of complexes and even such a serious mental deviation, as dysmorphobia.
Dysmorphophobia was described as far back as the 19th century, but the outbreak of this disease occurred in the second half of the 20th - the beginning of the 21st century. It was during this period that the concepts of ideal beauty were especially "intensively" introduced into people's minds .
Dysmorphobia is characterized by acute rejection of patients (or a part of it), increased attention to this problem, attempts to hide or disguise the hated defect, a categorical refusal to be photographed. In difficult cases, people cease to leave the house, communicate, become isolated in themselves, suffer and do not find a way out of their situation.
Most often, dysmorphobia develops in adolescence, when there is a special interest in its appearance. Comparing himself with others, a teenager finds something in his appearance, what distinguishes him from peers, sees in it a serious flaw and begins to complex in this regard. Most often, the object of such tortures are visible parts of the body: skin, nose, cheeks, legs, figure as a whole.

Dysmorphobia, according to family psychologists, can cause some of the problems that the teenager experienced in childhood, for example, lack of attention of the parents, lack of affection on their part, or increased attention of adults to the appearance of the child, ridicule and unflattering comparisons that parents often made with regard to His child.

If dysmorphobia develops, one can not hope that it will pass by itself, that the teenager will outgrow this problem. Dysmorphobia is a serious mental disorder that needs to be treated. As a treatment, psychotherapy is used, in some cases medication is prescribed, hypnosis and NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) can additionally be used. Treatment should appoint a professional psychotherapist. In mild cases, the problem can be solved as a result of several psychotherapeutic sessions. In severe cases, long-term comprehensive treatment will be required.
