Do you know how to adjust the headlights?

All modern cars are equipped with powerful lighting equipment. But improperly adjusted head and even additional light can lead to the fact that a strong light stream will dazzle the drivers of the oncoming cars, which threatens an emergency situation. Possible and the reverse situation - insufficient lighting of the road. To avoid this or that extreme, the car owner needs to know how to adjust the headlights.

The adjustment of headlamps is mandatory when the headlights themselves are replaced, for example, with xenon headlamps, when lamps are replaced in headlights or when installing fog lamps. This procedure will also be appropriate after the repair of the front suspension elements.

If you do not know how to adjust the headlights, or you do not have a suitable place for this, you should turn to the specialists of the SRT who, using a special device, will accurately and quickly eliminate the problem of "wrong" light.

Car owners, for whom there is no question of how to adjust the headlights, know that a standard scheme is usually used to perform this procedure. It is quite simple, does not require special equipment and does not take much time. The main conditions for this process are a flat vertical wall (used as a stand) and a flat horizontal area located in front of the wall. The length of the horizontal platform must be at least 10 meters, so that between the front of the car and the wall there is a distance of at least 7 meters. It is also necessary to stock up with chalk or paint tape for marking.

Before adjusting the headlights, be sure to check the inflation of the tires. It is necessary to be convinced and in absence of "overload" on one of axes. Elements of the suspension should not have significant defects, leading to an overestimation or understatement of the car above the road. The amount of gasoline in the tank should be about 1/2 of its capacity.

We put the car in front of a vertical wall (at a distance of 5-7 meters from it). We mark three points on the wall, two of which must correspond to the centers of the headlights, and one to the center of symmetry of the machine. We connect them with one line. Under it, at a distance of 5-12 cm, in parallel we are conducting the second line. We retreat from the first line down 22 cm and draw parallel to the third line. Through them we conduct three strictly vertical lines, which must take place in the places where the headlights and the center of the car were marked.

We turn the headlights on the dipped beam. The top of the light spot should be at the level of the middle horizontal line. Then we check the inclined beam of the headlights on the right, which provides roadside roadside lighting. It must go beyond the intersection of the vertical line with the second horizontal line.

If the headlamp does not match this diagram, then (with the aid of adjusting screws), set the headlamps to the correct position (so that the light beams correspond to the specified values).

As a rule, the headlights are equipped with two adjusting screws. The first is to tilt the headlights (the upper limit of the light beam is set along the horizontal line). With the help of the second screw, the right part of the light stream rises or falls.
