Definition of Health

"Health is such a state of a person to which not only the absence of disease or physical defects is typical, but also complete physical, mental and social well-being". Since then, a lot of time has passed, but this formulation, as a rule, does not bypass any of the specialists dealing with human health. At the same time, most often it is critically evaluated, including its weak practical applicability, but in exchange nothing more universal and generally accepted on this account has not yet appeared.
In the continuation of the analysis of the essential signs of health used by different authors, the leading programs "On the most important", that all of their diversity can be distributed in accordance with a number of conceptual models of definition of the concept of health.
1. Medical model of health
It involves a definition of health that contains only medical signs and health characteristics. Health is considered the absence of disease and their symptoms.
2. Biomedical health model
Health is considered as the absence of an organic violation in humans and subjective feelings of ill health. Attention is focused on the natural and biological essence of man, emphasizes the dominant importance of biological patterns in human life and in his health.
3. Biosocial model of health
The concept of health includes biological and social characteristics, which are considered in unity, but at the same time social attributes are given priority.
4. Value-social model of health
Health is a value for a person, a prerequisite for a full life, satisfaction of his material and spiritual needs, participation in labor and social life, in economic, scientific, cultural and other activities. This model is most consistent with the definition of health formulated by WHO.
I draw attention to one principal circumstance. He writes that in the definition of the concept of health, some authors treat it as a state, others as a dynamic process, and others generally bypass this issue by side. The author notes that health is considered as a state in earlier definitions of this concept. In recent decades, domestic and foreign scientists are increasingly inclined to the fact that health is a dynamic process. In this regard, we consider it appropriate to make the following explanations from the field of psychology.
All mental phenomena are procedural in nature. There is no psychic outside the process. Psychology must derive all aspects of mental activity from the concept of process. The category of state is the role of "filling the gap" between mental processes and personality traits. Under the condition, the author understands the integral characterization of mental activity over a certain period of time, in which all the peculiarities of the course of mental processes are reflected. Outside of psychic processes, Levitov correctly emphasizes, there are not and can not be any mental states. In contrast to mental processes, states are characterized by greater integrity and stability. Returning to the phenomenon of health, we believe that the more correct position is taken by those authors who do not try to absolutize in its interpretation of the involvement of only one category - either a state or a process. Individual health is a dynamic state, the process of preserving and developing its biological, physiological and mental functions, optimal work capacity and social activity with a maximum life expectancy.
