Correction test Bourdon. Determination of stability of attention

Parents often complain about the lack of attention, diligence in children. It is difficult for people who are distracted to learn, work, it is difficult to achieve success both in their careers and in their personal lives. Although to determine the level of attention and its characteristics, even in a child, it is enough to pass a small and simple test. And knowing the "enemy in person", it is easier to defeat him.

To determine the stability of attention, the ability to concentrate it, and the presence of fatigue, Bourdon's proof test is used.

This method was developed and proposed for use by a psychologist from France B. Burdon as early as 1895. It is still very popular due to its simplicity and universality, especially since it was perfected by other doctors several times.

A Bournon sample can be performed for adults and children of school age , as well as preschool age. There are only two conditions: a person must be sighted and able to hold a pen or pencil in his hands.

Methodology. Correction test (Bourdon test)

In order for everything to go right, you need special forms and a stopwatch.

On letterheads (A4 sheet) Cyrillic letters are printed in random order line by line. Subjects are encouraged to strike out or underline one or more letters from this form in turn in each line.

For example, the task may sound like this: now it is necessary to emphasize each letter of L and cross out each letter of the I, look through each line, as in reading, to perform the task as quickly as possible, but carefully, start working on a command. When you hear "Dash!", Place the vertical line where you are currently working.

The task, like the order of letters in the form, is set arbitrarily. Testing every thirty or sixty seconds (this requires a stopwatch) gives the command "Dash!". The whole experience takes 10 minutes. "Rejection" makes it possible to trace how attention changes over time, that is, fatigue.

At the end of the test, participants are interviewed, their subjective opinion is learned about the test, its passage, the number of alleged errors, this will allow more accurate interpretation of the numerical data.

Verification of results

The Bourdon proof sample gives us the data for the table, when the examiner checks the subjects' forms with correct answers (strikethroughs).

The coefficients of correctness and productivity are calculated on the basis of the data in the table, using the formulas:

B = (C-P) / (C + O)

Е = Ю x В.

To assess the test subject's ability to concentrate, there is such a formula:

K = (ΣC - ΣО - ΣЮ) / ΣР x 100%.

The results are compared with the scale:

Concentration of attention
Result,% Characteristic
0-20 Very low
21-40 Low
41-60 Mean
61-80 High
81-100 very high

Results by minutes help us understand the subject's setting, the ability of his mental activity to concentrate, train attention or relax and lose.

Modifications of the procedure

Being successful and often used, Bourdon's proof-reading test is developing, different scientists bring innovations and additions to it. By now, there are three modifications:

  1. Rings of Landolt. The research form is a series of rings with discontinuities in different directions. A method has been developed for people who do not know the alphabet, children.
  2. The V.Ya. Anfimov. It differs in that, at a certain time, the researcher starts to say aloud for 15 seconds in different letters in a chaotic order. This allows us to check the degree of stability of attention with respect to external stimuli.
  3. Method A.G. Ivanov-Smolensky. Crossed out not one, but a combination of letters (MF - RG).

Correction test Bourdon. Form

If necessary, it can be compiled independently, but now there are enough worthy examples. Below are some of them.

Standard form for adults.

Form for children of primary school age.

For babies you can find forms with badges, funny faces and drawings.

Thus, simply track the quantitative and qualitative level of human attention. After its definition it is much easier to understand where to move on, because to strengthen and develop attention, too, has its own methods. It is important to identify his shortcomings at an early age and learn to control, train him already to school, then the learning process will be easy, interesting and without problems.
