Chestnut is a deciduous single-tree tree or shrub that belongs to the Bukov family. Its height can reach 50 m. The trunk is covered with a brownish brown tinge with a thick crust with deep furrows. Leaves are short-petioled, spiral-two-row, broadly lanceolate. At the top they are pointed in the shape of a heart or wedge. Earrings thin, 5-15 cm long, containing mostly staminate flowers, and pistillate flowers are located at the base.

The color of the chestnut, the medicinal properties of which are widely used in folk medicine, appears in May. The nectar of flowers contains up to 75% sucrose. Fruits are spiky tricuspid green boxes. Sometimes they are called cocoons. They open on the leaves and inside have a large seed. In September, the fruits are fully ripened.
