In the movie "Duplex" actors face a typical "flat" question: what if the old woman with a terrible character poisons life in the house of your dreams? The main characters tried to solve the problem by non-standard methods. But they did not even suspect that the winner would eventually be that same granny who, from the very beginning, seemed to be the usual "divine dandelion."

The creators of the picture and a short story

"Duplex" - a film that was shot by the famous comedian Danny De Vito. On account of shorty Danny more than a hundred roles in the movies. The viewer knows the actor on the films "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest", "The Pearl of the Nile" and "Batman Returns".

However, in 1985 De Vito debuted as a director, shooting several episodes for the fantastic series "Amazing Stories." Then there was a whole series of comedies shot by the actor - "Drop Mom from the Train", "The Rose Wars", etc. In 2003, another work by De Vito entitled "Duplex" appeared on the screens. Actors D. Barrymore and B. Stiller, who performed the main roles in the project, also appeared as his producers.

The plot of the comedy is more than original. A young married couple drives into a house that is designed to accommodate two families and is equipped with separate entrances. Otherwise such residential objects are called "duplex". Only here with the neighbor Alex and Nancy was not lucky. On the second floor of their house, lives, according to the plot, completely an insufferable old woman. What only young people did: they tried to survive by improvised methods, they hired a killer, but everything is useless. Only in the finals it turns out that Grandma is not as simple as it seems at first glance.

"Duplex": the actors. Ben Stiller as Alex Rose

Ben Stiller is the star of American comedies. Such a fate was very predictable for Ben, because his parents also devoted all their lives to this difficult craft of comedic actors.

The debut of Stiller on the big screen was very successful. He immediately got on set for Steven Spielberg himself, having got a role in the drama "Empire of the Sun". However, later Stiller was less lucky, he got only in second-rate films. Then Ben decided to take matters into his own hands and took off the comedy "Reality bites" with Ethan Hawke and Winona Ryder. The self-made director also did not forget to take the role. Stilller played a major role in a series of adventure films "Night at the Museum."

In the movie "Duplex" the actors Stiller and Barrymore played the newlyweds, who decided to "nest" in one of the lovely houses of Brooklyn. They were not even sure that they would fall for the bait of the swindlers, whose main factory would be old Mrs. Connelly.

Drew Barrymore starred in movies from infancy: in 11 months the girl was brought by the parents to the set of the commercial. For the Barrymore family it was quite normal, because Drew belongs to an entire actor's dynasty: her grandfather was the star of silent cinema, and his uncle played on Broadway.

In 1982, at 7, Drew co-starred in Steven Spielberg's fantastic drama "Alien." After such a debut, the girl woke up famous. After a while, Drew began to show her rebellious nature and chose very unusual projects: erotic thriller "Poison Ivy", a horror film "Wax Museum 2" and other similar projects.

The next burst of popularity came in the late 90's, when the action film "Batman Forever" with Barrymore's participation came on the screen, as well as Charlie's Angels, where Drew appeared in the company of Cameron Diaz and Lucy Lew.

Now Drew is more removed in calm melodramas. The actress was married three times. Lately there are rumors that with the third husband, Barrymore intends to divorce, despite the fact that they have two daughters.

A. Essel as Mrs. Connelly

British actress Eileen Essel was invited to the black comedy "Duplex" for the role of a cunning grandmother - Mrs. Connelly.

Mrs. Connelly on the story takes the second floor of the house where Alex and Nancy reside. At first the young couple seems that the old lady is very nice. But over time, they realize that they could not find the worst neighborhood for themselves. Delivered to the extreme, Alex and Nancy decide to hire a killer to remove his neighbor. What was their surprise when Mrs. Connelly was able to neutralize the assassin by a sea harpoon.

In the finale, it turns out that Mrs. Connelly did all this on purpose: her nephew worked as a realtor and populated the house of naive youngsters, and the granny's task was to survive them as quickly as possible and force her to sell the house at a low price. Then a new pair was settled on the first floor, and everything began anew.

Other performers of roles

"Duplex" is a film in which the American playwright Harvey Fearsteen also starred. He got the role of realtor and nephew of Mrs. Connelly. Harvey has many awards for his participation in theatrical and Broadway productions. In the movie, he appeared in the films "Mrs. Doubtfire" and "Independence Day."

The role of the unlucky killer was played by James Remar. Remar participated in many feature films, but they were not very popular. But the artist is well known on the series "Sex and the City", "Dexter" and "Beyond".
