Audi A6 C5 - the new face of the company

Audi A6 C5 belongs to the second generation of the Audi A6 model , this car was produced from 1997 to 2004 in two bodies - a station wagon and a sedan. This model is rightly considered the face of the Audi line.

Appearance

The new design of the body of the Audi A6 C5 has received many positive reviews, because it still does not look outdated. In addition, the model has a very low drag coefficient (compared to other cars of its class) - 0.28. This allows the car to compete with recognized leaders - BMW and Mercedes.

The body, by the way, is completely galvanized. It is a steel bearing structure. But the hood, regardless of the volume of the engine, is made of aluminum.

Transmission

The Audi A6 C5 is the first to use a five-band sequential shift gearbox, in which the manual gearshift keys are optionally available. In addition, on models with front-wheel drive, a four-band transmission was installed, and from 1999 - another, variator gearbox, which had the only drawback: it could not be put in cars with a torque exceeding 310 Nm.

Engine

The engines on the Audi A6 C5 could be installed anywhere from four-cylinder to eight-cylinder, the volume of which also varied from 1.8 to 4.2 liters. In addition to them, diesel engines with four cylinders (1.9 liters) or six (2.5 liters) were also put. All engines had liquid cooling, represented by one, two or three fans, located longitudinally.

Drive unit

Produced as a front-wheel drive, and all-wheel drive models. At the latter, the torque was distributed evenly on both axles, and in the case of slippage, it could vary from 25 to 75 percent. This happened almost instantly, thanks to the installed inter-axle differential, which did not have electronic components in the composition, which made it more fault-tolerant than systems using an electronic lock.

Suspension

Chassis Audi C5 is made of aluminum alloy, which reduces the load of the suspension. Since 2000, in order to reduce the unsprung mass of the machine, the rotary fists also began to be made of an aluminum alloy.

Based on the experience with the previous models, there may be an opinion that the Audi A6 C5 has the same weak and unreliable suspension. However, it is not. All the levers that caused operational problems were replaced with more reliable ones, now they have a long service life - from one hundred to one hundred and fifty thousand kilometers.

Options

In addition to the mandatory functionality that was present in every Audi A6 C5, there were also a lot of optional parts. For example, they include an on-board computer that displays fuel consumption, time and speed. Still in it there is a remarkable function, allowing to give out a sound signal at excess of one of two preset speeds.

In addition to the onboard computer, the model could be optionally equipped with an anti-lock braking system , an electric drive, heated mirrors, air conditioning, fog lights, five headrests with high-altitude adjustment and much more.

All these improvements made Audi C5 an extremely reliable car, and style and comfort remained on top.
