Anti-lock braking system

Over the past ten years, the anti - lock braking system (ABS) has been widely used on many foreign-made cars. In recent years, we can say that ABS is an attribute of every foreign car.

In the 90s of the last century, this system was installed exclusively on sports cars. After a while it became an integral part of even cheap brands and simply became part of the brake system. Its decent value is more than covered by a number of advantages that the machine receives. Let's take a closer look at all the qualities of this innovation of technological progress.

"Anti-lock" - for what is the name

When the brake pedal is pressed gently, the driver gradually slows down the vehicle until it stops. But sometimes on the road there are times when you can not do without sudden braking. When the brake pedal is suddenly depressed, all the wheels stop at the same time, the so-called vehicle of the car comes into being when it becomes almost uncontrollable. Especially dangerous are sudden braking on a wet or slippery road, as the tires have the effect of aquaplaning, in which the car separates from the road by a thin layer of water or ice. Therefore, it is better to abstain from sudden braking in rain and snow. And instead it is recommended to extinguish the pedal by jerks - quickly pressing and releasing it with a certain interval of time. But in critical situations, drivers panicked to the full stop in a panic. P They will not fly away into the ditch. The anti-lock braking system makes it possible to "slip" the wheel (that is, prevent the wheel from being blocked). As a result, the car becomes more manageable and stable on the track in all weather conditions.

Anti-lock system of domestic cars

Unfortunately, our auto industry is still far from foreign technologies. Alas, such a system is not installed on VAZs, Muscovites and Volga.

Functionality of the antilock brake system

Despite the fact that the car, which has an anti-lock system, leaves a smaller stopping distance, it does not give a 100% guarantee against the occurrence of an accident. If the car brakes on a turn, its tires can completely lose grip with a road cloth, and consequently, there is a risk of an emergency situation. It should be remembered that this system controls the rotation of the wheel, and not lateral movement of the car.

In the case when the car brakes at the last minute, ABS can not save from an accident, because the car will not be missing the necessary braking distance. This does not mean that this system will shut down and stop functioning - it will work, but much depends on the size of the braking distance, because on a slippery surface the transport can not brake as effectively as on a dry asphalt road.

In some cases, the driver is able to disengage the anti-lock system of the wheels. For this, in any modern foreign car there is a special switch on the instrument panel. For example, it can be used when braking on a snow-covered track: the front wheels will form a snowball that will help brake.
