Aronia blackberry

Much to our regret, aronia chondrich grows rather rarely in our gardens. Many gardeners do not know about its properties, and therefore do not seek to start this plant in their own, and completely in vain.

Aronia blackfruit is a native of North America. On the territory of Russia it began to grow relatively recently. Aronia is a shrub or fruit tree of the Pink family. Outwardly it resembles the usual mountain ash, only the leaves are different. Chokeberry is very decorative, especially in autumn, when its foliage acquires a beautiful reddish shade. The taste of the berries of this plant is very similar to the fruits of the Nezhin rowan, but have a great deal of astringency.

Aronia (chokeberry) gives very useful fruits. They contain a huge number of phenolic compounds (phenolic acids and flavonoids), fiber, pectin substances, sugars, vitamins (P, B2, E, B9, P, C). In the fruits of this plant are many trace elements: iodine, manganese, molybdenum, copper, cobalt, boron, potassium.

The fruits are harvested in September-October in a state of complete maturity. Fresh fruits last very long under favorable conditions, but for long-term storage it is better to dry them. Drying berries chokeberry rowan is carried out in dryers at 40-50 ° C. Dried berries are sold in pharmacies.

Aronia blackfruit has an antispasmodic and hypotensive effect. Its fruits and juice from them are extremely useful to hypertensive patients. Due to the content of iodine and phenolic carboxylic acids, they are used for the complex therapy of such a disease as thyrotoxicosis. Chokeberry ryabin is recommended for use in diabetes, atherosclerosis, allergies, hypertension. It has been clinically established that it activates the hemostasis system, because it is often used for various disorders in the blood coagulation system. Especially shown is the use of black chokeberry with bleeding, hemorrhagic diathesis. The juice of the fruits of this plant is used for radiation damage, it is recommended for patients with measles, scarlet fever, typhus.

In this plant, not only fruits are useful, but also leaves containing substances that significantly improve liver function and favor the normal outflow of bile. In fruits, there is sorbitol, which is indispensable in the diet of diabetics.

Although this plant is extremely useful, it also has its own contraindications. So, the juice of the fruits of chokeberry is not recommended to be used by a patient with peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum, gastritis with high acidity of the gastric juice.

Both fresh berries and products of their processing are used for food: juices, jam, jelly, compotes. The most delicious blends of products from chokeberry with products from other fruits and berries. The fruit of this plant produces a wonderful wine. In order to make wine from chokeberry, you need ingredients such as berries, water, sugar.

Peeled berries are washed and crushed. This procedure can be performed with a mincer or blender. The mash is left to ferment at a temperature of 20 ° C for a couple of days. The fermented mash is pressed, squeezing out the juice from it. The remaining squeezes are poured with water at a rate of 300 ml per 1 kg of cake and left for re-fermentation for two days. The cake with water is squeezed and the resulting juice is mixed with what was squeezed out at the first pressing. In the mixture of juices is added sugar (1.5 kg per 10 liters). The juice is left for fermentation under a plastic bag or water seal for 20 days. The wine is filtered to remove the precipitate, and sugar is added to it (1.5 kg per 10 liters of wine). It ripens again for 1 month. The finished wine is again filtered and bottled in dark glass bottles. Cork bottles are better than cork stoppers. Keep the wine in a cool place. The taste of this drink will only improve over time.
