A fairly common method of removing harmful impurities from moonshine or vodka is based on the use of sodium bicarbonate. The fact is that in this drink contains acetic acid, formed by oxidation of alcohol, so it can be neutralized by adding soda. For this:

  • Take a soda at the rate of 10 g per liter of moonshine;
  • Dilute sodium hydrogencarbonate in the same amount of pure water;
  • The soda solution is poured into the moonshine;
  • Close the dishes with a lid and shake;
  • Moonshine insists about 30-40 minutes;
  • Again shake the drink and put it in a dark place at night;
  • Drain the moonshine so that the residue remains in the dishes;
  • Filter the beverage through cotton wool or a layer of charcoal.

Cleaning of moonshine with milk and egg white

Among the methods for removing harmful impurities from alcohol, there are quite unusual ones. For example, sometimes for these purposes use a hen's egg protein or fresh milk. To clean alcohol at home, act the same as with the clarification of meat broth. To do this, 1 liter of brewing liquor take 2 well-beaten egg whites and pour into the jar with a drink, constantly stirring it. Then the mixture is allowed to settle, carefully draining the liquid, trying to keep the sediment in the can, and filter. Similarly, you can clean the moonshine with milk, which, like the chicken protein, turns off from contact with alcohol-containing mixtures and, folding, carries with it into the sediment a particle of harmful substances.

Purification of alcohol with black bread

This is one of the oldest ways to get rid of fusel oils present in home-brew. However, before you clean the alcohol at home with black bread, you must first resort to some other method. For example, you can use the previous method with a protein. Then you need to take a piece of black bread, put in a jar with moonshine, wait a few hours and, when harmful impurities soak, remove it. By the way, after such a procedure, alcohol is not only well cleared, but also acquires a piquant aroma.

Purifying homemade vodka with low temperatures

If you are interested in how to clean alcohol from fusel oils, then the most effective way is to freeze it. The fact is that when freezing harmful impurities settle on the walls of the dishes, and in the unfrozen state there is only pure alcohol, which is poured into another container. Those who decided to resort to this method, you should know that vodka is recommended to freeze at a temperature of about -29 degrees.

Coal cleansing

Today there is a huge variety of absorbent substances. In particular, activated carbon is widely used in various fields , which can also be used for removal of harmful oils from home-brew. Before you clean the alcohol at home, you should buy tablets of this substance in the pharmacy (for the same purpose you can use the drug "Enterosgel"). Coal is poured into the dishes, turned into a powder and poured with home-made vodka at a rate of 50 grams per liter. Then, stirring occasionally, the mixture is insisted for a week, and after this period is filtered. To achieve the best results, it is recommended to repeat this process 2-3 times, replacing the used coal with fresh.

An ancient method of cleaning moonshine

There are a variety of ways to clean alcohol and vodka. For example, in the old days, 3-4 roots of violets with one spoon of granulated sugar per liter of beverage were taken to remove extraneous smells and flavors, insisted the resulting mixture for 12 hours and filtered.

Checking the "purity" of alcohol

It is believed that alcohol strength of 100 degrees does not need to be cleaned. However, one can not always be sure of its "purity". To check if the beverage has no impurities, you can take a mirror or glass, rinse it thoroughly with hot water and allow to dry naturally. Then a few drops of alcohol are applied to it and waited for the liquid to evaporate. If after that, there are no traces left on the glass, it means that there are no fusel oils and other impurities in the alcohol.

Improving the taste and smell of home-made vodka

To improve the taste and smell of vodka, aromatization is used, for which various berries, fruits, herbs and spices are added. In addition, in Russia, hops have traditionally been used for this purpose, which almost completely destroys fusel taste and smell, and natural honey. For the aromatization of vodka, it is possible to use infusion on medicinal herbs, which also gives the medicinal properties. In case you want to surprise guests and urgently need to flavor vodka, you can put wooden or metal bars covered with cloth in a pan with water, put bottles on them and boil for an hour. However, such vodka can only be served after cooling. Flavor (herbs, fruits, peel of lemon or orange, etc.) is added to the ferment, but in this case the taste and smell are hardly noticeable.
